in miami we're allowed to tint our windows due to the sun, at least thats what i think.. it might just be the fact the cops dont enforce much on the road?

We in Houston are allowed to tint our car windows too. The question is how much is really too much. 100% black is not for the comfort anymore and could raise suspicion.

Many people are aggressive or hostile when stopped by the cop.
oh yeah, i agree 100%. it's not only a safety issue with police officers approaching vehicles, but the safety while driving also....ex: reversing in the night time and unable to see well.

Who cares if you can see outside the car when you're text messaging somebody?

Don't you think it might also be because at night the driver might not be able to see out of his side windows properly?

Can you imagine a scenario where that might be a problem? Say winter when it's dark and some scumbag tries to run you over as you cross on a green man and he/she turns right on red?
Saw it happen in Midtown, man turns right on red, presumably can't see pedestrians who have just started to cross as his tints are so dark (or because he was an idiot) and hits one of them.

I was tailgaited yesterday by a pimped out Grand Prix that had it's windscreen tinted so dark you couldn't see anything.

HPD need to start being consistent with their enforcement of these laws.

If you are a defensive driver, being able to see the other driver is often critical to driving safety. Does the driver see me, is he even looking this way, is he on the phone... there are a gazillion reasons why seeing the other driver helps.

But then so does using your signals, and we know how often that's used.
