I work out 5 x a week. I'll never be svelte but if I don't exercise, I'll weigh even more and be out of shape. Our complex has a small exercise room we use.

If we moved to that area of the USA, how do you guys get in exercise? Do you work out at home on equipment or go for runs early in the day before it gets hot? (we used to do this in NY).

Do a lot of people belong to gyms?

Alot of Master Planned Communities have walking trails. Parks also have trails you can walk, run or bike. Alot of Master Planned Communities (and apartment complexes) also have club houses with excercise rooms. There are alot of gyms around the Houston Area. People also mall walk early in the morning.

Most people excercise outdoors either early in the morning or later towards evening.

I used to take jogs around the neighborhood in the early mornings (after sunrise, ~6:30AM) with little problem. From June - August, you may sweat more from the increased humidity, but it's not difficult to maintain an early morning jog throughout the year, as it doesn't get unbearably cold here.

It will take time but part of working out is just in conditioning. While tough at first, proper conditioning to the elements will make you much more fit and much more comfortable in the heat. Coming from NY, it'll be quite the change, but over time, you can condition yourself where its manageable and not feeling like a heat stroke coming on.

I don't live in a Master Planned community but we have miles and miles of hike and bike trails along the bayou in Houston. If you go for a ride early in the morning or at twilight, there's a great breeze coming from the south. It's rather nice in the evening if you are wearing Deep Woods Off. Plenty of runners are out in the mornings too.

Otherwise I hit a spinning class at noon.

People are out running even in the middle of the day. Evenings are nicer. Mornings are okay but quite humid. You get used to it.

I don't understand why weight lifting is not considered exercise but running is.

Weight lifting is when your doing supersets.....you still need cardio on days you aren't supersetting. Plain lifting is excercise, but not complete.
