Mexican:
Hobby Airport area: Taqueria Del Sol, Park Place / I-45 Northbound-- my #1 choice.

Friendswood/Webster: Barcena's, West Bay Area Blvd-- best in the Clear Lake area.

Another SE side: Pollos Asados La Silla: Shaver between Hwy 3 & Fairmont-- more locations around other run down parts of town, authentic Monterrey style, including no English spoken.

Stafford/SW side: Lopez, Wilcrest @ 59 if you're ever out there is worth it.

IMO the only Ninfas worth going to is on Navigation, but all the above are still better and cheaper. The rest of the Ninfas are chains; some are good and some are bad. Recently a lot of them shut down if that means anything.

If you're coming through on I-10, IMO better to stop in the Beaumont area for a Cajun fix.

I can also vouch for Taqueria Del Sol.

You certainly can't go wrong with Pappadeaux/Pappa's Seafood. There are better, but those are a constant.

Mexican is food is a bit trickier, there are many great places. It really depends on your price range as there is good food at every level.

Yeah you can't go wrong with the Taquerias. If you find yourself in the lower Galleria/Uptown area, might wanna check out Bayou City Seafood and Pasta for your Cajun fix.

I'll second that. Lopez is my favorite Mexican food anywhere. We used to drive to Stafford from Katy at least twice a month just to eat there. It's still the first place we go when we are back in Houston.

It's so subjective but:

Ragin' Cajun
Galileo's in Bellville (long drive, but worth it).

Just sayin'...
