In my research the last few years Huntington was always with in 5 degrees of ware I am in the pacwest but this last week blows the charts. How bad is this winter compared to the last 5 or 10 years and is the city equipped to handle it
This last week or so has been colder temps than usual but we only got a dusting of snow. It really didn't affect things too much. People with crawl spaces just had to be a little more aware of the condition of their water pipes to make sure it didn't freeze. It was 5 degrees last week but up to 67 degrees today and cold again this weekend. The saying in WV (and other places I'm sure) is if you don't like the weather, just wait a minute and it will change.
That reminds me to ask how common is wood heat or do they ever restrict wood burning in Huntington
The way I live I never turn the heat on unless it is under 40 outside and then just keep it at 50 inside, only at times under freezing i'd consider starting the wood stove

Most of the older homes and a lot of the newer homes have fireplaces in them. Some are wood burning and some are gas. There is no restriction on burning wood in Huntington and a lot seem to do it for heat. My 100+ year old house house 2 gas fireplaces in it and we use those a lot during cold snaps.
The coming storm is supposed to hit Virginia and the stores are out of emergency supplies in some areas, any news of expectations it will effect West Virginia
I think that south-eastern WV is currently expected to get most of the rainfall in the state but the rest of the state is supposed to get a moderate amount. The bigger issue is that most of the state just received a pretty heavy round of rain so it'll be interesting to see how that goes with the new storm. The Huntington Stormwater Utility is working to clean out all of the catch basins in order to help prevent water build up. The work they've done the last few years has really helped.
Nothing major. Just localized flooding when the down pours overwhelm the storm drains. This has gotten better overall though as they've made a larger effort to keep the storm drains clean over the last couple of years.
So what your saying is no mater ware i live in Huntington i can't keep anything in my basement more valuable than a mother in law
