They just went through a massive remodeling and transformation over the last two months into a deli/pub on one side and wine/beer store on the other. This also required some very expensive ABC licenses and health permits. I'm really quite surprised they've already called it quits barely a month into it. I really like the place and felt they could make a real go of it after they transformed.

Yea, that's what I thought was so weird...I'm going to miss going there for lunch.

Walked by today and just felt broken hearted for them. Such a nice group of folks at Kalous.

Yeah me too, and I was just there last Tues with a old friend from Houston that works for NASA and was in town for business. I was trying to convince him to move his family here and tried showing him the places like Providence and how this area is prospering with places like KaLou's.

My wife and I really like the beer and wine selection they had and they had some really cool sauces and spices for steaks and seafood. I travel quite a bit to SoCal, Houston and Baltimore, and places like this are everywhere and they do so well. If big city people move here and want HSV to be more big city stuff, they need to shop and spend big city money to help keep these places thriving.

My husband was the chef there, and it was a surprise for him, too. He is now looking for another position where he can make all his specialties, but he really loved working at KaLou's. The following of happy customers was growing fast, and word was spreading about the good food and service.

Providence has to be a tough market with the concentration of restaurants in that area. I'm curious to see if another restaurant will end-up in that space as the previous restaurant didn't make it either.

It's going to be called Providence Cafe. One of the owners contacted me the other day to tell me about it. As I understand, it's going to be a coffee shop/deli for the most part, but will also have a wine/beer bar attached as well. It sounds similar to what KaLou's was without the groceries. I'm not sure if they will be using all of the space KaLou's had. KaLou's actually covered two units.
