Are you talking about the grants from the Madison County EMA?

We submitted our info back in June on the EMA's website saying we were interested. Then we were contacted a few weeks ago saying we were near the top of the list, and had to submit much more details - pictures of the house, cost estimate, shelter specs, etc. That entire package was due yesterday. We were told it would be a few months before they knew how much money they got and how many shelters they'd be able to provide grants for. They were just getting the first group of people's details ready to go for when the money came through. That's all I know about it.

Why on earth should there be a tax credit for something like this? I'm dumbfounded.

Why not there is a tax credit to buy a Prius, one to insulate your house, another one (tax write off) for corporate jet. That is the one I'll be using.

What I am dumbfounded by is the bank handouts, and other corporate tax write offs.

Ha, good point. We should probably get rid of all of them.

"x% of everyone's annual income will be taken to provide $y of services, where x will not be changed by credits, deductions, etc."

Too simple to work I guess.

We found grant money for 50% of our shelter through actual vendors; members ASSA and ATSA.
