are you ribbing me?

I did another cost of living calculator from another site, and it seems to be about the same as yours.
However, groceries can vary by region due to local agriculture, etc.... just trying to get a feel.....

I think I really need to come and visit. I am excited at the prospect!

philter - yes, I'm ribbing you... well, not personally

You commented that prices are "about the same here in seattle", Seattle was the scene of anti-globalization riot...

I'll try to answer any questions you've got about HSV.

I suspect that katze_nata doesn't like globalization. "We have to respect other countries" - multi-culti pablum. Other countries can kiss my grits... (Do I really need to list countries for which I have no respect)

Thanks for all the replys so far....

btw- I have seen zenjenn's threads.... lots of good info
My older brother is an electrical engineer you must be a cool person.

I live in a town called Hazel Green, and we are in a good location for a commute. We are in a 4 yr old all brick home,3br 2bth 2car garage with about an acre for under 100k, this area would be a good place to consider. It takes me about 30 min to get to work. I work close to SHuntsville. If you are in engineering, your commute will probably be shorter because a lot of the big places like boeing, lockheed martin, etc are closer to research park, which is like 10 minutes from here.

Default Another couple of questions

I did a little web search, and it seems that teenagers can get a permit, log 30 hours of drive time signed off by a parent, then get a license? am I reading that correctly? In Washington state, under the age of 18, you have to have some kind of driver education. I have a 17 year old that is asking questions....

Also, if we move, we were thinking of hauling our travel trailer down, and staying in that until we find permanent housing. are there rv parks in/near Huntsville? Are they reasonable?

Thanks,
Philter

There is an RV park just north of Athens off the 65, but I am sure there are others. I don't know anything about it other than I have seen it and have been told it's new.

I know that the campground at Point Mallard in Decatur always has many RVs, and I found their site:
Point Mallard Park - Campground Information for Family Campground, Decatur, Alabama

You can get a learner's permit at 15 and driver's license at 16 (with 'Y' restriction after passing written test only - no restriction after passing road test - most people take the written and road tests the same day and get regular unrestricted licenses). Driver's education is offered at schools, but IIRC it just lowers your insurance rates (not required for licensing - helps kids pass tests).

You can get a boating learner's permit at 12; boating license at 14.

You can get restricted motorcycle license at 14, motorcycle only license at 16.

Your 17 year old could pass the written and road test, get a license, and then drive...

RV park - check out Monte Sano State Park - it has RV facilities, safe and quiet, 10 minutes to downtown.

RV parks - make sure you find out about long-term rentals. I believe Point Mallard only allows a certain length stay; other parks may have similar rules.
