This little oasis (Madison/Huntsville) isn't representative of the entire state of Alabama. I've heard many a transplant make fun of the rest of the state because it doesn't strive for the "excellence" accessible to us. The money just isn't there for the entire state to live up to lofty expectations.

I'm a transplant myself, and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else, but I'm so tired of those who are always scouring the internet for negativities regarding Alabama. Like I said previously, if Alabama doesn't meet your expectations, and you are only interested in complaining, by all means LEAVE.

Of course. Leadership means taking people to a better place. Inspiring people to go to a higher level. People want better lives. That is universal. As people want to win at football, they want to win at life.

Sounds bad, but adjust it for cost of living and it isn't as bad as the headline makes it seem. Also, most of your daily life is influenced by the city or town you live in... not the state. Adjusted for cost of living, places like Madison are some of the wealthiest places in the country. What I do here and what I benefit from in the Huntsville metro has zero resemblance to life in rural southwest Alabama. I hope their living standards improve there, but it is ridiculous to not act like there are lots of people in the Huntsville area that are doing ridiculously well for themselves.

I agree with the above. If Alabama is so bad then there is highway called "The Nachez Trace" to Mississippi (Nachez), which isn't bad either. North Alabama has the most PHD's in the country! Yes, there are some areas in Alabama that are "not the greatest", but tell me, what state doesn't have that? I LOVE this state AND the rest of the South as well. If you think we are that bad then don't let the door hit your ass on the way out!

That seems to be an issue anyone can get involved with. Forget about people, as that is too complicated, focus in animals.

BTW - these whiners are all about attention, not getting things done.
I agree, they come here and tell us how to live, or they try to!

Agree, they are a pain.

Becky does volunteer work helping people in this city, so you may want to rethink that comment. She's always asking for donations, support, etc for someone or a charity in need. If someone needs something, she will do everything she can to help. She does a lot more to help others (both human and fur kind) than most people I know, including myself. She's got a big heart.

Forbes used Huntsville as a way to represent Alabama's poverty? That's like saying the Trump Tower represents Manhattan.

On the other hand, perhaps some Alabamians believe it (that Trump Tower == Manhattan).

which poignantly illustrates how poverty is strongly correlated with lack of education. (The Old Doc may have the chance to vote today for someone who "loves the poorly educated").

Oh yeah...one more thing:

@ShelbyGuy: Some of the folks who you urged to get out of Alabama may have swiped the "t" from "Natchez"
