Did BellSouth (or whoever "the" telephone company is now) publish a telephone directory this year? If they did, I didn't get one, and it's normally delivered to the doorstep.

The past couple of years, they've only delivered the Yellow Pages, and if you wanted a residential directory you had to request one. This year, nothing.

I know more and more people are doing away with their landlines, relying on cell phones, and business and residential numbers can be found online (but not cell numbers), but I'm just wondering if they totally abandoned publishing hard copy directories.

Well, the printing of them used to be required by the Public Service Commission, but I think that's gone by the wayside. That being said, you can still get them if you call.

Thanks. I suppose they've kinda gone the way of a printed newspaper, only did it faster.

There are still quite a few folks around who don't use or have little use for cell phones or computers. My aunt and uncle in their 80's still have a landline dial phone and they have no interest in getting a cell phone. They say it's easier to have a conversation on the landline than it is on cell phone. I imagine by the time their generation passes on, landlines will be a thing of the past, kinda like letter writing. Another 5 to 10 years or so, I look for mail delivery to be a thing of the past. It's easier to have my utility bill's sent directly to my phone than to my mailbox in the front yard by the street, which eventuallly gets tossed in the trash. These companies must spend alot of money on stamps, envelopes and paper each year, when in this day and age, it's not really necessary.

They probably spend a considerable amount, but the bulk rate is almost free. That's why first class mail costs so much.

I still have a landline but I'm not sure why. Maybe for 911 address recognition, just in case? It's more an irritant with the robocalls than it is useful though.

I think I know one person who doesn't have a cell phone or even a computer. I don't see how they exist.

AT&T charged me $60/mo for a landline. Then you get TONS of marketing calls during supper time. No Thanks.
