I think a lot of businesses were caught off guard when the announcement was made to open businesses on Monday. Some will open but not until they are ready which might be in a few days.

A family member stopped to see if he could get a haircut on Monday but they were closed.

With all the restrictions placed on places like barbers some may find it difficult to open if at all.

All’s quiet in Huntsville on Alabama’s grand reopening

My sister cuts hair and they have been chomping at the bit to get back open, she's the breadwinner since her husband had a major stroke, and they are opening this week but Mondays are generally always a closed day for most salons.

Glad they are finally opening back up. We won't have to drive all the way to Tennessee to go out for dinner this weekend like we have the past two. lol

I took my family out to eat at a sit-down restaurant last night here in So. Alabama!

It was wonderful and there was a great crowd.

Anyone wearing masks and practicing social distancing?
If not then they are putting others at risk.

I got my hair cut this morning, and they were following all the guidelines. Texted the stylist upon arrival, stayed in car until told to come in, stopped and sanitize hands at the station by the door, and both the stylist and customer wears a mask the entire time. It worked out just fine.

I don't plan to go to a sitdown restaurant for a while. I want to see how restarting everything affects the number of cases - maybe wait a month or so before going.

But yes, we both wear masks and practice social distancing when going out, which isn't very often.

Had a late dinner at Lucia Mexican restaurant on County Line Rd. Staff had masks and gloves. They had sanitizer spray outside along with another one at the check out.

Only a few tables were occupied. Spacing was taking place but it really wasn't enough of a sample size to say the restaurant was doing it on purpose. All pre-COVID tables appeared to still be in place.

I was maskless and reckless as always. Also drove above the speed limit at times on the way to the restaurant. Effectively the same difference.

The idea of minimizing potential transmission time remains valid. I shopped for the first time in two months yesterday, choosing grocery stores that had few customers. Hopefully, that shopping will top me up for another two months or more. It was cool enough that masking wasn't an issue.

Masks and outdoors together make me the least concerned. Dining in? Uhhhh... no. I find it hard to eat with a mask on. Although... apparently shoving cotton balls up your nose and breathing through them has some benefit at reducing risk of infection (perhaps because people naturally social distance from you when you present like fungus was growing out of your nose?) Attractiveness is all about where you place those large balls of cotton, as Hugh Hefner was well aware.

IMO, the opening of business now is partly to push the next spike earlier, rather than into the fall when people might crowd indoors more upon any reduction of restrictions. This spike has the potential of being much larger than the first, given that the number of potential infectors has increased. We don't have proper testing and contact tracing and the asymptomatic have no clue (through no fault of their own), so those without masks, those who congregate in and outside of local gathering holes, and their loved ones are the most at risk.

Again, IMO, we are possibly about to see a Darwin Awards party unlike any we have ever seen. By now, everyone with a working brain has been informed of risks, informed of consequences, given a chance to practice, and been provided with cautionary advice that makes some sense. The temptation to revert to old ways will be strong. the numbers of people doing so will give a false sense of security, and the warm weather will make using a mask miserable at times. Even more troubling, the vast majority of people acting irresponsibly will have no negative personal consequences, making them even more vociferous that precautions are all a bunch of hooey.

Meanwhile, I see no possible way that some of those employed at nursing homes and rehab centers can avoid getting infected during this period. If I am correct, people resident in those places will be even more at risk than they are now. A lot of people need to communicate with grandparents now, as if it were the last time they could. Learn the family history, make any amends, record what might be important. The virus will do what it does.

To recognize the perspective needed to not freak out, this virus will likely not overtake heart disease or cancer as major killer. What it can do is create a LOT of death at the same time and create massive disruptions, while leaving survivors of it with an uncertain health future.

This is a community of rocket scientists. We may be about to find out just how smart many in the community are.

Wife went to Brass Tap over by Chuy’s this evening after work with some co-workers, probably 15 of them. They sat outside on the patio and had bar food and cocktails. She sez it was a pleasant time.
