Frontier Airlines is now selling tickets for twice weekly service from Huntsville to Denver beginning on April 12th This is great news and a vote of confidence for the HSV market as they no longer have Birmingham listed as a city they serve on their website. While they presently only have service to Orlando once a week, they plan to expand that to twice a week later in the fall.

Several low cost airlines have tried and failed to be profitable out of HSV. Apparently, so far, at least, Frontier appears to be succeeding and this is a big accomplishment. Frontier is betting that there will be a vaccine and passengers will want to resume flying.

It will be interesting to see if the Airport Authority will be successful in the future in attracting Southwest or a new airline called Moxy which is being founded by David Neeleman the founder of Jet Blue. Moxy has plans to concentrate on smaller airports (like Fort Wayne, Indiana), so HSV has a good chance of being considered.

No need to worry, Southwest started a new nonstop flight to Denver from Birmingham this past Sunday instead of in December like original thought. Daily, by the way.

I didn't know they were back to flying from and to here. I was on the golf course this morning and saw a Frontier plane leaving, I think around 9:00 a.m. It must have been going to Orlando.

Orlando flights never stopped don’t think. Even before Covid, Frontier is a very fickle airline. They will add and drop flights in a short minute. I wish they had a better connection schedule, as it is you can’t really go anywhere beyond Denver or Orlando without a very long layover many times overnight.

Both Denver and Orlando are destination cities on their own though, both for business and pleasure. I used to fly into Orlando a lot (going to KSC) before the airport was huge. Denver is a defense/aerospace city as well. At the moment though, the Army is doing limited travel, and I don't think NASA is doing any travel by flight at all. They'll come back at some point.

I agree completely about the inability to make any connections once you arrive in Denver. I have even looked into trying to connect with a United flight to Jackson Hole, WY, and both Southwest and United flights to California, but the flight from Huntsville arrived too late to make any connection - You would have to spend the night near the Denver Airport. With the present schedule beginning in April, the flight from HSV is scheduled to arrive in Denver at 6:11 PM, so it is possible to connect with other flights -even if they aren't Frontier - You would just have to bring your luggage on board the plane and carry it with you to the next flight. The Denver Airport is not too bad for doing that especially considering the fact that Frontier and United share the same concourse -Concourse A, whereas Southwest flights are a short underground train ride away on Concourse C.

The soon to resume daily United nonstops from HSV to DEN are another option.

Flights in general are slowly getting back to normal at HSV. I'm sure they're nowhere near what they were in January before all this happened, but there are noticeably more flights now. Hope they can soon get back to what was a near 25% annual increase in passenger traffic.
