A few weeks ago I started seeing a green check mark next to the Caller ID along with the words "Verified" with some calls. After a little checking I found this:

To help combat robocalls the carrier has enabled validation displays that let you know when a call really did come from a given number. If a call has been validated, you'll see a green check mark next to the number along with a message saying "Valid number".

I have Xfinity Voice home phone from Comcast. The called ID information is displayed on the TV screens for a few seconds after the phone rings.

Has anyone else been seeing this in the Huntsville area and what service do you have?

No, but it's a great idea. Does it show up on your cell phone as well?

I have WoW, and still have a landline. They converted my phone to VOIP some months ago, and failed to re-initialize the outlet I use for my Dish receiver, so I no longer have Caller ID on my TV screen. I need to call them to have it fixed but just never have gotten around to it.

The government directed the telecom companies a few years ago to develop technology to combat number spoofing and robocalling. I haven't looked into how they handled it but the root of the problem was the fact that cell phones were responsible for putting their phone number into the data packets to send when a call was initiated. That made it extremely easy to spoof the numbers. It only took a simple little app that even early teenagers with a little coding skills could write to replace the actual number with any number.

My thought process was the best way to handle it would be to take that task away from the handset device and let the network handle putting the cell number in the data packet by verifying the imei ID number of the cell phone making the call. As far as I know they haven't changed any of that so it is being handled probably by some sort of two way handshake verification to make sure the phone number and imei ID match what the system side says they should be.

My cell phone now blocks the numbers that have been flagged as spam and the phone never rings. I just notice a potential spam call has been blocked. Hopefully, this will curb all the nonsense. I never answer calls from numbers that aren't saved under a name in my phone but I know a lot of people that do and have to listen to the car warranty is expiring and you are going to go to jail today if you don't pay calls. lol
