It's in the VBC main arena at 7 p.m. We have tickets and plan to attend.

Should be a great show, believe it’s a hard sellout.
From WAAY TV
Tuesday night's concert will be the third top-grossing event in VBC history, coming in behind shows by Reba McEntire and Elton John.

Typically, Nashville is the closest city that hosts events of a size similar to the Greenwood event. The VBC hopes the Lee Greenwood tribute concert puts it, and all of Huntsville, in contention for larger events

Samantha Neilsen, director of public relations and marketing at the VBC, said they're ready for more events at this scale, bringing in greater revenue.

"Once the event is over, we'll start looking through the ticket sales and seeing how many people from out of our market bought tickets," she said.

"As far as putting Huntsville on people's radar for travel, essentially, is that this concert is going to be broken down into three one-hour segments, and those one-hour specials are going to be aired on national networks."

Nielsen said once people see what Huntsville has to offer, they'll start seeing more big-ticket events.

"Typically, a tribute concert of this magnitude, as everybody's aware is held in Nashville," said Neilsen. "Hopefully everything goes well and they're wowed by us and will see more events like this to come through the market.

Speaking of the Von Braun Center - does anybody think the main arena will ever be expanded? It really needs to be larger (maybe twice the size) to attract the upper level events. Or perhaps the MidCity Amphitheater will pretty much nip any expansion the bud? Birmingham just redid the Jefferson County Center (not sure if they just made it nicer, or actually expanded) on the same site, so the VBC could probably fit in the existing space as well. It was built in the 1970s when the population of the area was just half of what it is now, and it's still growing.

It should be expanded. They keep talking about wanting to attract big name acts but the VBC at full capacity is only something like 6500 not including seating on the floor for a concert but I imagine by the time you remove the count of seats that would be behind the stage and then add in the count of the floor seating it is probably less than 6500. I don't really think big names are interested in such a small venue when they know we will go to Nashville to Bridgestone Arena. I really do think we have outgrown the VBC arena.

Depending on stage setup full capacity is 10,000.
The new amphitheater will be a dramatic increase in concert opportunities.
Most artists now are playing smaller venues.
Upcoming events which include Three Dog Night, Foreigner, Lindsey Buckingham, Reba, Jefferson Starship.

I'd like to see Journey. They've been to Nashville, and I believe the Stones will be there soon (or maybe already have). We'll have to go some to attract a show like the Stones though.

I don't remember how long ago it was (maybe 20 years ?) that Madison's mayor proposed an entertainment complex that included a 15,000 seat arena. The money behind it fell through so the idea was dropped. It was probably a good thing at the time because I don't know if the city of Madison could have supported it in the long run. It would also have competed directly with the VBC Arena so it would probaly have it hurt the VBC financially. All I remember is that the Madison mayor was a woman. She may have lost lost her reelection because of this.
