It is a dubious and questionable distinction ...

Huntsville ranked No. 1 among tornado cities; Birmingham and Tuscaloosa in top four | al.com

Does this mean our (home and life) insurance rates will be adjusted soon?

If Florida is any example, homeowners may go up. If there are MAJOR storms and widespread damage, look for policies to be dropped. Life insurance shouldn't be affected.

There was a big increase in homeowner's rates after the tornado outbreak so I would think that it has already been priced in but of course insurance companies just look for a reason to stick it to us. The probability of a super outbreak like April 2011 happening again anytime in the near future is pretty low. It is more in the 25 year or so average. The odds of us having random scattered tornadoes each spring and fall is about 100%. Of course all most every area has it's natural disaster's of one form or another, ours just happens to be tornadoes.

I find this odd....I've lived in AL nearly my entire life and I would say Tuscaloosa, Pleasant Grove, Bessemer, and Cullman deserve those honors.

FYI, my insurance didn't go up one bit after 4/27. I also haven't seen dramatic increases in what clients were getting pricewise before and after. I'm sure there has been some increase, but if there has been this "dramatic" increase across the board, I haven't seen it.

Our insurance is still relatively low compared to the rest of the nation. I paid nearly $3000 a year on a 2200 sft house in Florida. Mine is $650 on a 2600 sft house here, and I have jewelry riders, computer riders, sinkhole, etc. And a FIXED wind/hail deductible!

Alabama actually had more tornadoes than Texas in 2011.

By the way, I love the picture in that article where it shows the tornado damage and a 'DEAD END' sign in the middle of it all.

Just curious who your insurance company is!!!! That is VERY reasonable and is much lower than anything we pay now or when we lived in Huntsville. I would love to get a quote from your company!

Thanks !

Me too.. I pay that much for a 1500 sq ft home with a 1K deductible and no extra riders. Plus I get a discount for having car insurance with them.

Granted what I pay is less than what I paid in Fl which was 1,500 on a 100K home.

That sign is on Stovall Rd in Harvest. Of the 9 houses on that section of road, 5 were completely destroyed, 2 required complete rebuilds, and 2 were livable under the blue tarps. We also had 2 fatalities on the street.

USAA is the best! I wish I had married a veteran...

But Allstate has always taken great care of me, even when filing a claim. Also I only pay $600 or so a year, maybe less?
