"We were only going to ask you for some money"

"both with heavy sticks"

Definitely an appropriate reaction since any real beggar knows that no one carries money with them while jogging - those guys had to be up to no good. Call the cops next time.

lol, who asks someone who's exercising for money?

sure I take ALL my cash and credit cards when I go bike-riding

I think they probably WERE on drugs, because asking for money from people who are just out for a run doesn't make much sense.

It is possible they noticed the jogger apprehensively going way out of her way. They sensed her nervousness and what she might be thinking ("Those two guys are going to hit me up for money"). Their reaction was to play along, not intending on asking for money in the first place.

I'm a runner and would have done the same thing. You can never be too careful.

You speak/write/think as if you were there ... and not watching from the sidelines, if you know what i mean...

If any of you are thinking of hiking/walking along part of the Appalachian Trail in GA/just outside Atlanta--don't go alone.

IIRC, New Year's Day, '09, a beautiful young woman met her demise in this manner. She went for a walk with her dog and a perv who frequented The Woods--generally hung out around Blackburn Park near Dunwoody, upscale community in Atlanta and had several other hangouts in the mountains, saw her, he was carrying a big stick, too. She never stood a chance--she was fit and trained in self-defense which was no match for the perv and his large stick.

Then there was the incident on the Silver Comet Trail. A woman jogger/cyclist--I forget, met a similar fate. The Silver Comet Trail runs from NW metro Atlanta--around Kennesaw to Alabama. Wonderful trail but it seems anyone is at risk, particularly if you are alone.

I am surprised by the posts saying that you probably overreacted, it was nothing. How naive. You said you got a funny feeling, got the chills? Well, that is your inner voice, we all have one, but some people dont tune in, or ignore theirs. it kept you safe that day. ALWAYS TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS. Its sad the people that are dead because they didnt sense danger.

You said it! I would have ran the other way also...something isn't right there. Every self defense class I've ever taken has taught us "trust your gut...if it feels uncomfortable there is a reason".

Now, if I was jogging there, I would have asked those two guys for money; Just like I do to the guy at the bottom of the Governors off ramp from southbound Memorial Parkway.
