I recently rented a Kia Rio Hatchback for a few days vacation spent exploring the open stretches of New Mexico. This is the first time I sat in a sub-compact in close to fifteen years. I was very impressed in the overall quality, ride, and sportiness. It was very quiet, nimble, and had adequate power to keep up with traffic on the Intertstates. I've never considered purchasing a sub-compact before, but came away very impressed. The Kia seems to be a good city vehicle and is quite good looking to boot. I'm curious if any of you have longer term experience with Kia models, and what your thoughts are.
Here is my Kia Rio Hatchback rental soaking in the red rock vistas of the Jemez.
All of the new Hyundai/KIA models are good cars. You'll want to compare competing vehicles to decide if one has an edge over the other but you really can't go wrong with a modern KIA or Hyundai. Cars have improved drastically over the past decade or so and the gap between various makes seems to have shrunk. I haven't checked out the current Rio but it looks great particularly for its segment.
I have checked out the Rio sedan recently.I was impressed with the quality and the looks. It is a nice little car.Unfortunately,my budget can't handle a new car,so I bought used.I did like it,though, and seriously considered it.

The new KIAs do look nice. I just wonder if they will hold up over time. I see so many late model KIAs around looking super old and worn. As an X Military man, I have a hard time with K-killed I-in A-action. Petty I know but still seems like an odd name for a car company.
I will stick with Ford.

I thought about that name too.The dealer said it meant Keep It Affordable.I don't know if that's true, but that's what he said.
I agree that they are great looking cars but to me that is where it stops. I sat in an Optima in the summer when the wife was car shopping. The overall fit and finish felt cheap and sparse
The new Kia Forte looks like a well designed vehicle and its way better looking than the Hyundai Elantra. I particularly like the interior as well. Unfortunately, its crash test ratings weren't good. Other cars did poorly as well, I think only the Honda Civic and Subaru Impreza did well in that segment.
The new Kia Soul is looking to be a strong seller and is greatly improved, although I wonder about the small offset crash test which so many cars had trouble with. I read about cars hitting trees and poles and one person suffering devastating trauma and the other passengers being not nearly as injured.
I'll also wait and see about the Honda Fit and its new redesign.
I almost bought a Kia Rio. I liked everything about the car except for the lack of a spare tire. I am still unsure about Kia and Hyundai reliability as they have just recently been grouped alongside Honda and Toyota.
