Has Bonners Ferry ever flooded? (Kootenai: live, move to, area)

My family & I are hoping to move to Bonners Ferry this next year, but were wondering with the river right in the middle of town if they have ever flooded?

I believe that it did back in the 30's before **** was built, there are pictures in museum of town back in early 1900's when it flooded.

But with todays climate.....never rule out the 100 year flood

I remem ber the flooding in Bonners Ferry and I am not antideluvian.
Until the dam was finished, the river flooded some districts every year.
In 1960 there was a boy who saved the area from a flood by holding back the water with his bare hands, according to a report which came out of the Spokane papers.
Whether the dam can stop all the flooding remains to be seen, in my opinion; that there were results from that dam which were good is clear, that there were others not good is also clear. When I was a kid I thought that the dam would be a good thing.

In the mid 70s the Kootenai River did not flood but a lot of the creeks DID flood, and I think Deep Creek, the largest in the Valley, washed out all of its bridges one year. They were all rebuilt with much newer, sturdier more expensive briddges. It was fun to watch because I remember the sound of boulders being pushed downstream as the water roared over them.

So, don't just look at Kootenai or Moyie, if you live near one of the major creeks than you have flooding to worry about, although it may not be but every 20-30 years or so.
