Am I crazy for loving the weather here? We get all four seasons and the winters are awesome! Sure they're long, but at least we get a lot of snow. I feel like if it's going to be cold outside, we might as well have plenty of white stuff to play in.

And the gray drizzly humidity is doing wonders for my skin.

Interesting comments all. Thanks.

Peach, can I ask where you lived before the Sandpoint area? We get "Seattle weather" living on the Olympic Peninsula, and it's about all I can take. We get less actual rain, but almost as much gray.

I know there are "lies, damned lies, and statistics," but this does seem like a reasonable category to look at the statistics. If they are to be believed, Sandpoint has 20 more days of sun than we get here, and much warmer summers. Obviously the trade off is major snow fall and much colder low temps through much of the year.

Neither place seems anything like ideal weather (that's down in Southern California) but I'm trying to figure out if Sandpoint weather might be a better fit, because in other ways it seems like it might be. Somehow with all of the snow I get the feeling a lot of Sanpoint locals embrace the winter—maybe it's too mild here. :-)

Back in the '70s I spent 5 years living a bit north of Sandpoint in the Nelson-BC area. I never thought the winters were all that bad, though I do believe that Neslon is slightly milder than Sandpoint. Although certainly colder than Seattle, there was ALOT more sun in a typical Nelson winter than in Seattle, or even the amount of sun during winter back east. I cant' recall a single occasion when the temperature dipped below 10 degrees, and there was very little wind.

All things considered, winters in that part of the world were not as extreme as the winters in Grand Junction-CO where I currently live. There was alot more snow up north, but not the severe, below zero cold spells that occur in western Colorado during the months of December and January, nor did we get the windy spells like we get here quite frequently. Due to the relative proximity of Sandpoint and Nelson, I imagine that the winters in Sandpoint are very similar to the winters in Nelson.
