Hi there! Husband and I are coming up in Sept. to check out areas between Bonners Ferry and the Sandpoint area for a possible move. We'll be coming up Hwy 200 from Montana and staying in a vacation rental in Hope. Any suggestions from the locals for a good restaurant? Read Toyman's message about the buffalo wings and was sorry there weren't many recommendations....maybe if we end up moving to the area, he'll have to come by and taste my husbands hot wings....he says he can put the Anchor Bar's wings to the test! Any decent mexican restaurants? Where's the best steak house?

What about boating registration? If a person moves in from another state with their boat, do you have to pay Idaho state sales tax if coming from an "no sales tax" area like Montana?

How bout ATV registration? Here, we paid a one time registration fee for both the ATV and its trailer...no annual fees after that.

Thanks for any info!

Jalapeno's and Joel's for Mexican. Steak.....The Hydra? MickDuff's is great for burgers and beers and Ivano's for Italian.

The outdoor deck at what is now 41 South (used to be Swan's Landing) made the decision to stay here permanently rather than use our place as a summer cabin. Maybe it's good luck...we've been here 10 years now.

(I still think that 41 South is one of the dumbest and most forgettable names ever, for a restaurant)

Thanks MistyRiver! I was just reading an old post about restaurants dated 2009....lots of info in that one....didn't know if anything had changed since then....several other folks had suggested Jalepenos too. Will be looking to try a pizza place too....good ole pepperoni or all meat marvel types!

I would stay away from Trinity Cafe which is owned by the corporate scoundrel Mel Dick who signed off on Worldcom's fraudulent financial statements. He went on to Coldwater Creek and made millions dumping that stock before it crashed and is now on the verge of bankruptcy. Disgusting.

I had to go back and read your posts to make sure you weren't my husband posting under an assumed name.

I personally don't think Jalapenos is near as good as they used to be. Joels is a small place, but sell authentic Mexican food and it is really good.

41 South is great, but expensive! For Hope itself you have three really good options: the Floating Restaurant (excellent food, superb setting), Ivano's at the Peninsula, and Sweet Lou's for breakfast. I've also had a Hope pizza place recommended, but haven't tried it. A strange restaurant in Clark Fork: the Squeeze Inn. You get what the owner wants you to have! But it's always good, and the menu changes all the time. If you want to drive about 15 miles into Montana on the south side of the river (rough road across the border), try the Amber Bear, but remember the 1 hr time difference. The Clark Fork Pantry has wonderful sandwiches, and they bake the bread right there!
