My husband and I would like to move from MN to Idaho and have researched areas from Couer d' aLene and above. We would like to have 10 acres or more either with an off grid small home, or just land to build our own. We love the landscape of the upper Idaho area with mountain views. He works in building maintenance and myself in office/administrative. He is also experienced in doing perks for water/septic. Are there jobs within 30 minutes of say the Priest River area? Would he be better off getting back into self-employed perk testing instead of maintenance? We would prefer remote area to city. Also, is the weather dreary most of the year in that area as I have S.A.D and can be affected by those gray days. What do we need to know as far as water, land use, and living on what would be considered reservation territory? We have so many regulations here in MN and have never had to deal with water sharing etc. Thank you!

I live in the Priest River area and we were off-grid for seven of the ten years we've been here (we're grid tied and net metering now). IMO, Bonner County is easier for off grid people but the job situation is not good anywhere in this area. Not enough new building for a perk testing business and jobs in any area are extremely scarce.
Winters can be very grey as far as being on solar power and having SAD. Summers are very sunny.
