I saw some pictures a buddy in Boise who was doing some repair on the place on the State's dime about 8 years ago, and it's incredibly 70's tacky on the inside; multi colored shag carpets, furniture, and a kitchen full of Avacado green appliances. The huge windows in the front have all been covered with that dark clear plastic stuff used to tine car windows, and it's very dark and gloomy inside.
He thought the tint was added after the house was built because it must have been an oven during the summers and freezing in the winters.

Butch has to be 73 now. I agree, Three... except for an 8-year interruption, Butch has been in Idaho's politics since 1972. He was a State Representative for 6 years, 6 years as Representative in Congress, 14 years as Lt. Governor, and Governor for 8. That's long enough. We need some fresh blood in the Governor's office.
Who would you have in mind to take his place?

If this incredible Idaho Forum turns into a discussion of politics it would be a shame. If that's the case, count me out. I'll find other things to do with my time.

I'll save that for another forum. But at the moment, I'm undecided for sure.

I don't think this will be on the Political forum, most have no idea Idaho is part of the U.S.

Don't run away from this forum over just one thread out of how many on the Idaho forum.

I'd say it's a little hard to not talk some politics when a governor of Idaho is involved. Just how much can one say about a movie that really didn't involve porn when Otter had a line or two in it. To me this would be gossiping.

Butch needs to retire. He has proven with this session in the statehouse that he is not listening to the people of the state and only listening and pleasing special interest groups. As a native of the state I feel he has hurt Idaho (it has nothing to do with R vs D either), he has brought Idaho down the past few years concerning education, good paying jobs, etc while catering to the ranchers and wolf hunters. He is a good ole boy and their breed needs to fade out in Idaho's government.

Idaho is changing, has changed and is not as rural as it once was. The small rural towns in the state are shrinking while the larger towns and cities are growing.

A few people are in the race now to run against him and their names will be more common as the campaigning begins.

pimit2, just because politics is brought up in one or two threads on occasion is not a bad thing. Almost all of the threads in the Idaho forum do not mention politics. Political banter about Idaho needs to stay in the Idaho forum and confined to a thread or two. People outside of Idaho are not going to care about what goes on politically in Idaho and if there is a thread in the political forum it will only attract classic city-data trolls.

I take there are no time limits for the Governor.
Two term limit in Hawaii. The governor is elected to a four-year term commencing on the first Monday in the December following the election. The 1978 constitutional convention established a term limit of two consecutive terms for governor. Then have to wait for four years and can run again if one wishes.

Just one person's opinion, but I would prefer to see the Idaho forum remain free of political discussion. I've never seen any forum where that topic doesn't lead to some pretty stark lines being drawn between forum members, which inevitably affects quality of the discussion on non-political subjects.

If people want to post news items related to politics in the state, that's fine. They should go in the Idaho News thread that we already have.

Yes, Scott. There are no term limits for Governor here. So far, none has ever served more than 2 terms, but Cecil Andrus served a total of 14 years; he was re-elected, called to become Sec. of the Interior halfway through his second term, then a decade later, ran again and was re-elected again.

Most of our past Governors have served one term. Only Butch has ever tried for a 3rd consecutive term.

Thanks Mike.

We had Mayor Frank F. Fasi, Mayor of Honolulu for 22 Years. In 1969, Fasi was elected Mayor of Honolulu and served through 1981 when he was defeated for the first time for re-election by Eileen Anderson. He staged a comeback and defeated Anderson in the 1984 election, returning to Honolulu Hale once again and serving as mayor through 1994, when he resigned to seek the Hawaiʻi governorship.
Colorful guy. I didn't know of him until i arrived in Oahu in the Navy my first year here in 1982, after he had lost his re-election bid.
That is a long time in any political Office.
Scott

I read the other day that the state gave the mansion back to the Simplot family, and they will be demolishing it.

A good thing; the place was no beauty, and was a nightmare to keep up. Access was also terrible.
Our Governor's mansion is old, for sure, but is still a pretty nice old place, and for what the Simplot house would have cost the taxpayers, a new mansion could be built that is both cheaper and better suited to life in the 21st century.

J.R. has been gone for 8 years now, and his memory is better served by all the public buildings and other structures he paid for all over the state.
