What are current internet options around CDA to Bonners Ferry?

If you worked online and your business was dependent on a solid fast connection, would that be something that could be found in a location from CDA to Bonners Ferry?

Just wondering about internet reliability in the area.

Thanks in advance for you feedback

Your options are going to vary widely depending on exactly where you live.

Here is a long thread here on Internet in north Idaho

If you live in town you will have some options, including cable in Sandpoint (not sure about Bonners Ferry). Northland is the local cable company.

If you get very far outside town your options can be limited. There are microwave services that are reportedly pretty good (Intermax, AirPipe), but you need to be close enough to one of their towers and have direct line of sight from your antenna to the tower in order for that to work.

Some people use satellite, but there are many complaints about latency and the overall quality of service from both a technical and people perspective. Overall it's not recommended, but it may be the only option in some locations.

You can try a cellular hot spot, and if you live in an area with good 4G coverage that may be acceptable. Our tenants currently use one at our place in Sagle, but unfortunately we are just outside the 4G coverage area so it mostly works at 3G rates. It gets them connected pretty reliably, but the speeds leave something to be desired.

You will see in the other thread that there are a couple folks here who have paid to have T1 lines installed to their homes. I think in the cases I am aware of they operate businesses from their home, and were able to justify the expense on that basis.

If it's a firm requirement for you I'd make sure to understand the options at the places you are considering and factor that into your search criteria.

Good luck!

Dave
