Top national news of the day. BIG story, even bigger in Idaho.

Here come some (please with emphasis on "some") Republicans saying it was a bad move, "caving to terrorists". Yes, that is out there. I call B.S.

Welcome home, Bowe, and god speed on a healthy recovery.

Great news, for Bowe, his family, and the nation. I just hate to see the story being instantly politicized from left and right, with elections coming up. (Even so, some valid points may be made...But that's something for another forum...)

Pretty quiet around here. I figured this subject might be a hot one.

I'm on the fence concerning the secret negotiations and dangerous prisoners swapped for Bergdahl. It's alleged that he deserted right before his capture, and the emails that he sent to his parents reveal anti-American sentiment at best. If he's an America-hating deserter, he should now be facing a court-martial.

Yes, the war in Afghanistan is futile and needs to be resolved, but when you join up with the army, you suck it up and do what you're told.

Any discussion about his release needs to remain relevant to THIS soldier, and not in ANY way become commentary on the war, or politics.

So, we should all be thrilled by releasing 5 Taliban terrorists for an American hating deserter. Six soldiers were killed while looking for him when he left his post.

I didn't know about the six soldiers, very sad. So this Bergdahl walks into the terrorist like he's on a stroll in Cancun? Don't they court-martial deserters and send them to Fort Knox, or has that changed as well?

They better keep an eye on this guy for a long time.

Just for everyone's info, the POW-MIA issue has been in my heart for a long time. I've worn a large POW-MIA patch on the back of my motorcycle vest for 27 years.

The scuttlebutt, allegedly from his fellow soldiers, is that while he was on guard-duty, he laid down his weapon and abandoned his post. He was supposedly carrying only a compass, some water, a knife, a camera, and his diary.

Fellow soldiers call Bowe Bergdahl a deserter, not a hero - CNN.com

Too many patriotic Americans in the great state of Idaho for there not to be profoundly ambivalent sentiments about the actions of this young man. No doubt the states citizens are happy for him and his family with the news of his freedom and return to American soil, but there's also other very important issues surrounding his absence from his post, then his capture, and finally his return that simply can't be swept under the rug.
