I was reading about registering a car here in NID and it looks like a VIN inspection form needs to be completed by a LEO or a DMV person to get an ID title. Would I have to have the form completed ahead of time by going to a police station and having a LEO fill out the form or would a DMV person be nice enough to come out to the CDA DMV parking lot to look at the car and fill out the form when I go there to get the car registered?

The movers loaded up all my household stuff and are on the way to NID. I just put my CA house on the market and my builder just got the final home inspection completed. Got to turn in my CA drivers license and plates and get new and much better Idaho ones ASAP.

When I moved here three months ago, the police came out to the house and inspected my two trucks and trailer. I filled out the form online, printed it, and he verified the info and signed the forms.
When I was getting the title and plates, there was a person who went outside to inspect a vehicle for the person next to me. In fact, there was a special parking area in the front of the building noted as parking for VIN inspection only.

Just make sure to bring your current title or state information, and for your driver's license, you have to show proof of residency so it might take a few weeks. I took in utility records, and a bank statement, along with my Utah driver's license and that was good enough (after I passed the written test which is very easy).

Did you call the non emergency number and ask the policss come out for the VIN verification? I know oldafretired has a bunch of cars so that would be convenient if they are willing to do that.

I didn't mean that as if you would have called 911, I meant if there was a different number to call other than the non - emergency number to get them to come check out the vin number. lol

I would guess it is a safe bet that every PD in the USA has a non-emergency phone number. So google it!

I read Para's post as "did you call the non-emergency number, or is there some hotline number for police recording VINs?"

OK. Thanks! Looks like you can get it done either way. Yeah, I guess I'll have to wait until I get a utility bill before I can go get a drivers license.

When I changed my title over, I just went to DMV in Coeur d'Alene and the girl from the counter just went with me out to my car and checked it. Very easy and painless, they handle it all right there.
Drivers license and DMV are just across the hall from each other. I would suggest getting there early license department gets very busy.
