We, two, like the more or less 30,000 size town; it's manageable for us.

However, we thought an even smaller town like Orofino was ok and we liked and disliked some experiences:

There is one family there who presumes to control the quality of life for the community. But they have little professional management or administrative education and experience and because they seem a little greedy, they cause disruption in the lives of many in the community. The "my way, or the highway" mentality comes from owning a lot of real estate.

The results are: lack of creativity and competition in town and a kind of pettiness that exists with people who can only view their own belly button.

We lived with mold in the walls of our rented house, failing appliances and generally unsafe conditions because like many real estate moguls, this family is land rich and cash poor and really isn't interested in the quality of life for others.

We loved the character of the people but the old age of buildings in town and the expression of disgust on the faces of people, when you mention this one's family's name is what caused us to run for the hills.

We'll come back to Idaho; we love it but we want to live somewhere where there is fair competition and compassion for all.

If you plan to retire or buy near Orofino, please send us a private message and we'll provide more details.

Enjoyed the posts! Is Boise, Eagle or Meridian a good choice for retirees? Is there a particular condo complex that is especially nice? I'm looking to be active in hiking but probably not the other outdoor sports. I wondering if painting, pottery, computer and other choices are available especially in the winter. I especially want to feel safe. I'm not worried about friendliness, I'm sure its there and I'm friendly and polite so make friends easily.

Hi folks.. new member here on the forums.. This thread interests me because we (my wife and 10 year old daughter) are very seriously considering a relocate to ID.. We are from the upstate NY area. We've come to the conclusion that NY state just does not fit our lifestyle in many respects. Not just economic. Although thats high on the list. This is a long term goal for us that will require much research and discussion as well as a trip out there. We've looked Wyoming as well...but ID seems to be our #1 choice. My wife runs an in home daycare currently and we feel thats a job she can carry with her to whereever we relocate. We homeschool our daughter as well. I have worked in 2 major industries.. Automotive and culinary... So I potentially have 2 different career slots to chose from in the job market. Any feedback on those 2 fields from you folks is appreciated. I have looked at Boise area , with Meridian being a possible choice but still as the research is at its beginning point I am not set on any city.. any thoughts are helpful from both the born in ID and the transplant.. thanks Brian
