Can anyone recommend a long distance mover? What was the cost?

Would be coming from California to Eastern Idaho.

Thanks!

There are some suggestions here:

If you do a search on "movers" and "moving companies" in the Idaho forum, you'll get several more hits. Good luck.

I've used these guys to get stuff from the East Coast to CA, and they were very good. It was a package deal, continuing a transport from overseas, so I can't tell you exactly what the domestic part cost.

Have you tried asking your question in the CA forum?

The General Moving Issues forum here on City Data has some good advice about how to go about planning for a move and choosing a mover. The short story on choosing a mover is to get at least 3 written estimates based on a representative of the mover coming to your home and taking an inventory of your belongings. The movers we had do estimates spent between 2 and 2-1/2 hours at our house.

Where in CA will you be moving from?

We're paying about $0.70 per pound for our fairly large upcoming move from SoCal to north ID. That includes the cost of paying them to pack our fragile items (dishes, glassware, televisions, etc.). We are doing the bulk of the packing. Also note that due to our driveways we will need a shuttle (smaller truck moving items to/from the big truck located elsewhere) on both ends of the move.

I'm not sure our move is typical.
