We're interested in McCall. A few friends both lived there and loved it but moved about 10 yrs ago. Just wondering about opinions on that town now. Still have a "country and home town" feel? Winters still have a lot of snow? People still great? We currently live in a mountain town in AZ but it is getting too big and we're starting to consider other areas. Would appreciate any input. Thanks.

McCall is a great town.

However, my wife had a job offer in McCall in the early 80's. I told her..."you don't want to live in McCall". She went off on a rant about how we moved for my career and not hers, etc. etc.

We showed up in McCall on May 10th. There was four feet of snow on the ground and the lake was frozen.

She left a message at the office...scratch me from that job.

IF you like winter McCall is a wonderful town. And it is farther from Boise than the map shows.....unless they rebuilt the highway.

McCall has grown a lot in the last 10 years. It has a "home town" feel but has also grown as a resort area and is becoming more high end.

The winters still have snow, some winters don't get as much snow as other winters. Summers and Fall are amazing up there. And it is only a few hours drive from Boise, half of that distance is slower moving because of the curvy highway along the river. The drive generally seems quick to me except for times when there is heavy traffic or road construction. It is also a beautiful drive, the entire length from Eagle to McCall.

My sense was that McCall was for Idaho's upper crust. They really did not want to mix with those weird folks in Sun Valley. It was always a resort and high end, but for Idaho residents. Not sure if the world has yet to discover McCall, but I think more people are aware of it.

It is a great town. It is even better if you love winter.

Also given the telecommunications today and the ability to fly out of Boise to anywhere in the world it is not as isolated as it was in 1980.
