Like a few other states, WA is heavily driven by the politics of it's major metropolitan area. As someone else noted, I would not want to live in the state for that reason alone. If it matters to you, WA is becoming a state that is unfriendly to gun owners. Not as bad as CA or OR just yet, but the trend is headed in that direction.

It's possible that Idaho may evolve in the direction of the major metropolitan area controlling much of the politics as a lot of growth is happening in the Boise area, and that area tends to be more liberal than the more rural parts of the state. I think that will be a slow trend if it does happen, and it will take a long time for it to become like the Seattle/WA dynamic.

Yes, they have no income tax in WA, but I think you'll find other taxes and fees make up at least some of that difference. At the end of the day states get their money from somewhere, and outside of some unique situations like NV or AK usually it's primarily the residents that foot the bill.

There are websites around that do a fairly good job of evaluating the overall tax situation in each state.

If you think that's bad you should do some reading about what the Founders thought about jury nullification.

I'm over politics generally speaking nowadays. Having said that, I live in Eastern Washington and like it just fine. Guns are still legal, just within stricter and stricter parameters.

As far as the Sheriff's deciding not to enforce the new laws. It will be interesting to see how the State AG handles going after them. At the end of the day, unconstitutional or not, police still have discretion in their arrest authority.

During my investigations of potential places to live over a year ago, I ended up ruling out Washington State as it's property tax would sink my ship

Default Idaho vs Washington the contrasts, and a change.

From my perspective living in both Spokane and Idaho, it seems to be more a thing about city versus less urban areas.

I will definitely say though that Idaho appears to be far more tolerant of drunk driving than Spokane or the state of Washington.
Marijuana is legal in Washington state. other 'hard' drugs are not. In Idaho recreational usage is not legal, though the CBD (non THC) products are being sold at places like Pilgrims market in CDA.
AS of JANUARY 1 2019: Both Idaho and Washington have very similar laws on Alcohol / DUIs . One DUI in Idaho is now subject to getting the breather lock, and high risk insurance ,and similar penalties like Washington state. Although there used to be contrast about this, things have changed.

I came from Seattle, I had grown up in Iowa, so Idaho was more like where I grew up, with a little bit of city nearby. I live a peaceful life near Coeur D Alene. People seem fairly easy going. There are lots of people like me that come from somewhere else, and they just want to be happy, and be nice to others. Some people like the left, some people like the right, some people just like the people. I am the last kind.
