Does this Average temp graph comparing CDA to Boise look right? It seems to show not that much difference between the two areas in winter. Wouldn't CDA have much colder winter temps than Boise? And Idaho falls seems to be much colder that CDA?

Those temps for CdA look reasonable to me. I live closer to Sandpoint, so for grins I added that location to the chart and it also showed temps that I would expect for my area.

Those graphs for CdA are fairly accurate. Couldn't say about Boise or IF, as I live in a small town across the prairie from CdA.

By the numbers on the graphs, the differences look about right, and they are noticeable in real life.

Altitude has a lot to do with cold. I.F. is the coldest because it's the highest and Boise is the lowest. I.F. also gets the most solar radiation due to altitude, so the growing season is a little longer than C d'A.

Boise is in a hole, C d'A is in timberland, and I.F. lies at the base of some foothills. All this has differences in relative wind speeds. I.F. is the most exposed, so its the most windy.

Once these towns are visited, the climate differences are readily perceived.

I don’t see anything abnormal here. In general Boise is warmer and sunnier than NID most of the year. Snowfall and cold temps are more prominent in NID though Boise can get cold in the winter. NID is influenced by still being relatively in the oceanic zone moderating extreme cold.

Check out the number of sunny days per year too.. you will see that Coeur d'Alene has a lot lower number, which is typical of the far northern US Rockies... goes along with the higher snow and rain fall, and moderates the temps some. Average annual sunny days from Sperling's climate data:
- Cd'A:174
- Boise: 213
- IF: 197
- US average: 205
