My wife and I are considering retiring to the Lewiston area in a few years. I am concerned about the water supply, though. I have been reading online about well restrictions, rate increases, and concerns about the future supply, especially in the area east of town. We would like to be able to have a nice garden and raise some of our own produce. It sounds like drilling wells in the Lewiston area can be hit and miss. Can anyone who lives in the area advise me on this, and let me know where the best areas are to have your own well? I was dismayed at the water rates, both in the city and Lewiston Orchards, which are similar to what we pay here in Arizona. Thanks.

You may wish to check this out. Not unlike our own town they are redoing their entire Wastewater system which naturally elevates each persons cost as it has in my town. It's a good benefit long term of course and can be expected. With the Clearwater and Snake River having endless water to supply I don't see shortages ever being an issue. It is located in a perfect place for continual water supply.

Repairing Lewiston water system will cost about $42 million | The Spokesman-Review

Those links are very informative. That would explain the high water rates. I can't imagine the area depleting its water reserves in the near future. I used to live in Nampa and have found out their water tables are dropping, no doubt because the population has exploded since I was there in the late 70's and early 80's. I work in the water and wastewater field and plan to retire in several years. Maybe the expanded plant will have some good job openings. I see that the water rates across the state line in Clarkston and Asotin are much cheaper. My wife and I plan to visit the area soon, hopefully later this year. It sounds like a great area to live, with a decent year-round climate. Thanks, dcisive.
