If you go to the Sandpoint Rentals webcam you can see that the Gold Hill webcam shows golden larches/tamaracks all over the valley. One of these days we hope to see them in person!

Your post reminded me to drive to the Elkhorn Mountains near Baker City, Oregon to see the Western Larch (a.k.a Tamaracks). They can be very spectacular. I did so yesterday and made this panorama: https://kuula.co/post/7qt34

It's good wood.
Stronger than pine or Douglas Fir, almost as rot-resistant as cedar and redwood, harder than Bigleaf Maple, and as resilient as Hickory. Great for building boat frames, and works pretty well as the wood for a fiddle top.

It's kinda tricky to work with though, until a person learns how to handle it.

That's a very healthy looking stand, OAF. Beautiful trees.

One of the prettiest sights is a hillside full of larches in the fall. The first time I saw that I was taken aback. I didn't know there were evergreens that turned gold.

I’ve been there, just to see the tamaracks change color. They’re beautiful! I highly recommend it. Also, I did not realize until now that tamaracks were known by a different name.
