Arizona Immigration Comes to High Court « Liveshots

Will our Govt actually do something to serve the people or are the States going to be left to fend for themselves?

I doubt it. The illegal immigration problem is mired in politics right now. The Republicans will accept nothing less than deportation of every illegal alien in the country and will stick with the talking point of "enforce the laws on the books". Democrats will accept nothing less than comprehensive immigration reform which includes a path to citizenship for some; not all, but some. Both sides want the border closed but neither side wants to pay for it. Neither side has the votes in congress it needs to pass their agenda. I make no judgement on either side. Both have very valid arguements. Just telling it the way I see it.

This opinion is worth what you paid for it.

Probably not; if history teaches us anything, it's probably likely that any 'fire' that's lit, will ONLY be lit after some huge 'disaster' that DEMANDS the immediate action of the 'Feds'. (Exactly what that 'disaster' may consist of is anybody's guess....perhaps some sort of Third World style tribal conflict, as happens in so many places today around the world? Who knows?).

At such time as this future 'huge disaster' does take place (re: illegal immigration), THEN the 'Feds' WILL crack down...and HARD.... In fact, we'll all DEMAND that they crack down....and they will; on ALL of us. At that time, all of society will thus be affected, negatively, and we'll tell ourselves that this is 'OK', because there won't be any singling-out of any group..no 'racism'..just a general 'crackdown'.

.But until then, no, I don't see any huge 'crackdown' that would do much to change the status quo. No one in office has the political will to take such action, and if he did so, he'd get no backing. We'll have to learn the hard way.

The time could also come that our problems WITHIN our society grow so great that 'illegal immigration', by comparison, will seem like only a minor issue. Again, who can say?

No 'Fire' under the Feds now, though...I don't see that happening. If we can't tell the difference between 'controlling illegal immigration in Arizona' and 'forcing Hispanics to hide in their homes', then I see no likelihood that we'll see any 'crackdown' any time soon.

I think that any "fire" lit under the jimah obama regime will be a "fire" to punish Arizona anyway that jimah can. Jimah's ICE director, who of course answers to jimah, said he may not accept any illegals turned up by SB1070? Maybe ICE, except for a few dog and pony shows, will stop all enforcement of immigration laws by ICE in Arizona? Maybe the petulant jimah will just let Arizona flap in the breeze?

One can only hope. I think the fact that AZ recieved so much support nationwide was a wake up call. I think when the Obama admin pulled the race card and it fell flat that they began to understand this isn't going away this time.
