So you think Obama will NOT entertain amnesty ?
And while you list several names above...we've only had the one amnesty under Reagan.
Only?
Obama won't touch immigration with a 10 foot pole and will likely keep dancing the issue as he has. If anything, he's on the side of anti-illegals. When the health care reform bill was under works, the right were screaming up and down "he's for the illegals!" "he's going to give them health care!" etc,.. though at his speech, he made it clear the bill will NOT cover illegals in which the right throw a fit with outbursts.
The fact is the politicians and core of the right want the illegals here for cheap labor to help boost profit margins for big business. The core of the left are against it as that would take jobs away and drive down wadges from the unions / labor divisions.
On the other hand the people on the right think their party are completely pro-american, for the people, and wouldn't support amnesty.
The people on the left think their party is more open to change and friendly to the idea of open borders and opportunity for all.
This is the main reason why both parties for the most part haven't touched the issue. If the right politicians call for amnesty, the people will reject it, call them a RINO and will lose votes.
If the politicians on the left call for anti-amnesty, the people will reject it, and they will lose the hispanic vote, if not others.

Exempting illegals from having to buy health insurance or be provided health insurance plans by their employers is NOT being against the illegals.
To the contrary - while Americans will have to pay hundreds of dollars to buy insurance coverage, illegals again get off scot-free. They will still show up at the ER for their free medical care, but there will be no pressure on them to find an insurance plan or pay what Americans will have to pay for some kind of coverage.
Not only that - look how making illegals exempt greatly helps the employers of illegals. Hire Americans and you'll have to chip in money for an insurance plan for them, but hire illegals and it's a huge money savings.
It's going to make being an illegal all that much better- no mandatory insurance but all the free health care you could want.
Try again. The ones that have been gung-ho for amnesty are the republicans.
Reagan = amnesty
W= amnesty
McCain, the poster boy leading the charge for his amnesty bill, and he's from arizona to boot.
If Mccain were in office now, the illegals would be jumping for joy from their new found mccainesty
Very few if any CONSERVATIVES are for amnesty. Political leaders of all stripes have been for amnesty.
Currently, Lord Barry the First is the main proponant of amnesty. Currently, I might add, McCain and Kyle are markedly opposed to amnesty. I guess they learned and paid attention to citizens, while Barry has not.

Reagan was against the 1986 immigration reform act.
He signed it in a deal with the democrat congress, to get his tax cuts passed.
Reagan worked across the isle, in a give and take to get what he wanted and to allow the other side to get what they wanted. Now GW Bush... He loves his illegals in Texas. Just another typical Progressive, wearing the Republican label.

I read somewhere that Reagan regretted the amnesty that he signed also.
