There needs to be a total halt of any kind of immigration except that of parents, their children, and anyone who has a foreign spouse. That needs to be capped to a small number every year, at most 500. The requirements for citizenship also need to be more stringent. They must speak, read, and write English equivalent to the advanced level or above (equivalent to a C-1 level using Europe's yardstick), and have lived in the US as a permanent resident for 15 years before being eligible to apply for citizenship and they must renounce their previous citizenship if they are not a native citizen of the British Isles, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand. Also if you are a naturalized US citizen, and you choose to live outside the US for longer than 3 years and do not return for a period of at least 1 year you are assumed to have automatically renounced your citizenship unless you are from the above mentioned countries (this is to prevent loopholes by some nations that don't grant you the right to relinquish your native citizenship) Permanent residents also will not be allowed access to any social services until they are naturalized, and residential real estate will not be sold to anyone who is not a US Citizen or permanent resident and only US citizens are permitted to buy land larger than one acre and can buy property near the coast. Only US citizens are allowed to participate in any political event or function, including but not limited to protest marches, campaign donations of any kind, and petition signing. Only permanent residents and those immediate relatives and spouse sponsored by a US citizen may adjust their status to apply for US citizenship.
Thanks Mexico, Brazil, Germany, and Spain for your inspiration
before we can fix the immigration system, we MUST secure the borders first. without solid border security, immigration reform means nothing.
No offense but changing the immigration rules is done A LOT faster than putting up a fence. Doing my rules would slow the flow of illegals once their benefits are taken away and then you can build the fence and secure the border physically. Or do both at the same time

if you could put those rules in place, and have them properly enforced, then you are right, and it would make the border much easier to secure. the problem is that you will have too many sanctuary cities that will still violate those rules, and unless the federal government forces them to follow the rules, then the border will have to be secured first.
