“The two mission sets are criminal analysts and enter-identification team,” Harrison told CNSNews.com. “I can tell you that guardsmen will not be doing direct law enforcement on the southwest border.”
In other words, the National Guardsmen will not be used to actually stop and detain illegal aliens trying to sneak across the border into the United States.

It's the same old thing the last time the NG was put on the border. It is all just smoke and mirrors to make it appear that the government is doing something about illegal immigration. They must think the American people are really stupid.
As long as the murders, rapes, kidnappings, ID theft, and credit fraud is happening to everyone EXCEPT our elected local/state/federal officials, their family members, and close friends -- illegal's are officially NOT A PROBLEM.
I'll have to agree with chicagonut "It is all just smoke and mirrors to make it appear that the government is doing something about it"
But it's the 'MISGUIDED' plan that Obama has been instructed to follow
Depicting American military actions as unjust, unwarranted, and immoral promoting open borders, mass immigration, and a watering down of current immigration laws, promoting social welfare benefits and amnesty for illegal aliens.
They could be used to spot them so that someone else with gojones can stop them. Not that the National Guards do not have gojones, it's just that the gubmint has them "tied up," so to speak with the strings of restriction. We need people who will deport illegals. If gubmint doesn't like that, let them come down here and start changing the diapers of anchor babies, and paying all of the BILLS encountered by Arizona for supporting el parasitos.

Same church, different pew. If 6,000+ troops weren’t effective, how the heck can 1,200 make a difference, especially with their hands tied behind their backs?

I think it's been a magnificent team. The National Guard is on target to deliver up to 6,000 citizen soldiers and airmen from various states around the nation. They will be in these border states of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas on the 1st of August. We will meet the President's commitment to do that. I was briefed early this morning. We actually will exceed that by a small margin, and then we'll make an adjustment because military units are not really built to meet numbers, they're build to deliver capabilities. So we won't really have 6,000 there; we'll have slightly over 6,000 to deliver the capabilities that Chief Aguilar has requested. And then we'll make those adjustments as necessary as time goes on
