There is a lot of fake outage here. Until you go ask every time you use a good or service if all the help is legal or not then you are not on higher ground. That means checking the residency of the guy who washes the dishes in the restaurant you like; the maid who cleans your hotel room or home; and the guys who mow your lawn or fixes your roof. This also means when buying a newly-built home to ask the builder for proof that the labor was legal. Until you do all these things and more you are hypocritical b/c you are paying reduced prices via illegal labor.

BUT we (as non LEO residents) are not ALLOWED to ask questions regarding immigration status - so it's moot isn't it?
As legal residents/citizens we are allowed to EXPECT that ANY workers in this country are here legally, so what was your point again?
Oh and FTR the outrage against illegals here is in no way FAKE, tyvm, we are GENUINELY outraged that our govt/elected officials are FAILING to enforce the laws of this land in order to pander to a particular segment of people to whom THEY owe no legal duty whatsoever.

"Fake outrage?" What does that mean? How can someone fake outrage? Either you are upset about something or not. Also, I really doubt that the people here have any problem or hesitation to ask their contractors if workers are legally here. They (we) are so outraged that we don't mind doing that. I have read a lot of people here say that they do. The problem is those of us who WILL ask don't have the means to verify what is true or not, so the owner of that business that employs undocumented workers can just lie. Also, people who DO want to verify that the services they use (be it construction or just getting a cheeseburger) are labeled as racists or given a hard time for wanting to know (which shouldn't stop a person from asking). In those cases, we talk to federal and local government about doing THEIR job to make sure these companies aren't employing undocumented workers. Because of the reasons listed above, we need the government to do their job so we don't have to go around asking if employers are legal or if the home with 10 people living in it is full of only legal residents. It would prevent issues if the government actually did its job, but no, we got people who have to ask if the construction workers on their house are legal.

What you don't get is that we aren't allowed to do that for the most part and most employers would not disclose that information even when asked. So no, we aren't hypocrites. Grasping at straws here again to justify illegal immigration?
Since when is it illegal to ask a question of someone who wants to work at your house? If they don't like being questioned about their status tell them you have found someone else who will do the work for a better price or some other BS excuse. They can't prove that you denied them work based on their non-answer to one question of many that you asked.
And what I was getting about, especially in the new homes part, was that almost all homes in the state of Texas are built with illegal labor. The only way you can avoid this on a new home is to have a custom home with a hand-picked crew or a company you can trust. So how many of us can afford a new custom-built home? I was expressing the futility of the situation - meaning we home-buyers don't have much choice - along with the fact that you will pay less for that home than if your legal sons and daughters had built it. You support illegal labor every time you buy a new KB, Centex, Geehan, etc. home but there really isn't much you can say to the company about it.
And about having to trust and employer who tells you he doesn't hire illegals.........You don't have to ask him. If he has staff that speaks only Spanish you can be very sure (90%+) that they are illegal and that you shouldn't do business with them.
I just know that in Texas most people will not ask b/c whether it is in Austin, Dallas, or Houston there is, for the most part, a look the other way mentality.
The thing is that some in here try to lay blame on Americans because they don't ask restaurant owners, grocers about who picked their produce and other places that Americans do business with whether or not illegal labor was involved. It is ridiculous and not our place to do so. Any employer who has used illegal labor in any form is not going to give you an honest answer anyway.
And add to that now the government is seeking to do away with E-verify. I will always ask for employment verification of anyone working on my home because guess who will get sued if that illegal is hurt on my property. Not the business owner who brought that illegal in--the homeowner. Illegals are quickly learning the value of America's litigation system.

This guy see's it as a win win, cheap labor, while he displaces the legal american workers. what a great man, use the ill legals to keep middle class america poor. this man should be prosecuted criminally and publicly outed as a the scum he is.

Educate yourself before making false statements. Americans are looking for work but unless they are willing to work for less than minimum wage and can speak Spanish they are out of luck. What part of illegals have no right to work here don't you understand? Or our immigration laws unimportant to you?
