I think that's a VERY good slogan - Remember in November

The really stupid thing is - it's not even like the lettuce IS cheaper just because it's picked by illegals at less than minimum wage - the "savings" aren't passed onto consumers but go into the pockets of the employers. Why don't the advocates for illegal labour seem to GET this? Or is it that they think we're THAT stupid we don't see the REAL cost of illegal immigration?

Lettuce isn't cheap now by any stretch. It was much much cheaper before 30 million illegals moved in.

Also there are no caps on H2A visas which allow farmers to bring in temporary guest workers.

A temporary guest worker is ideal for harvesting of crops because harvest season is a few weeks and then the temporary guest goes home to his family and the taxpayers don't have to provide welfare handouts for the other 11 months of the year.

The glitch for the employers - they have to first try to hire an American (gasp!) and they have to pay legal wages and benefits (another gasp!)

Actually the illegals get paid big wages here picking that lettuce compared to Mexico wages. A dollar goes along way there.

I remember in the mid sixties, a dollar was the minimum wage here. Today it is the same in Mexico as the sixties were here in America for the American worker.

For illegals to make minimum wage here is huge money for them= that is why they come here .

Plus they learn to work the system to get food stamps and housing.

Having a baby here gives them rights to all the freebees.

The illegals are abusing the system and they learn from each other how to advance to better jobs with illegal documents. Many are doing much better than the working Americans .

Many Americans have no job. This is a down and out scam the illegals are getting away with. The race card is played by the democrats as these illegals drain our system and the illegals say America Is Good and they probably think they are entitled by now.

KILL POLITICAL CORRECTNESS NOW OR IT WILL KILL AMERICA.VOTE THE BUMS OUT!

The lettuce isn't more expensive in Europe, Japan etc. And they don't have illegals doing it.

Cheap lettuce is a fallacious arguement. Only about 1% of illegals actually work in agriculture.

U.S. Lettuce Statistics

check table 63 = export value
check table 61 = production of worlds lettuce
check table 62 = worlds producer prices
check table 45 = production per state
most of the statistics dong go beyond 2005 so I guess were going to take that as a reference.

worlds production in metric tons
USA 4,659,000 metric tons
japan 551,000 metric tons ( america produces 8.4 times more)
spain 1,026,000 metric tons (did not spain had a lot of illegals prior amn)
france 488,7000 metric tons
germay 241,700 metric tons
uk 139,900 metric tons

and in producers price
while in the usa a metric ton cost to produce $425
in japan a metric ton cost to produce $115,000 yen in dollars is $1,008 dollars
in germany a metric ton cost 788 euros or $972 dollars

who comes a winner ???usa, usa, usa
Monthly Average Graph (Japanese Yen, American Dollar) 2005
Monthly Average Graph (Euro, American Dollar) 2005

now about the lettuce itself lets not fool ourselves most of the workers were hispanics that worked in the salinas valley "which produces 80% of americas lettuce"

we talk and talk about how illegals destroy everything they touch, could we for a fact see how much of that
lettuce is being processed from 1986 amnesty illegal aliens? and their children? and how much of is done by illegals themselves? and how much are pick by visa workers?

the point is we are short of workers, or the producers dont want to pay what american workers rightfully deserved, but could we not be grateful and say "if those hispanics are doing it for cheap" they keep the producers
happy and if the producers actually paid the american workers what they deserved would it be just as expensive to produce lettuce as in japan or germany?

and for a second lets pretend that americans would take over those jobs, and those jobs woul pay a descent wage, dont you think that those americans would contribute more to society in taxes?
hispanics are to blame for a lot of americas problems but if you look closely they are the ones keeping lettuce and so many things
cheap for our daily use.
