Why shouldn't they? They won it, what difference does it make?

That's no different than You and I enter the office betting pool.... You win and you make 100% more than I do, should you keep the winnings?

The question I have is, is it fair for the government to take 50% of my winnings?

Hard to say. That scenario is so unlikely as to be totally irrelevant.

I think it's fair. It's a windfall.

The first guy to win a substantial amount in the California lottery was an illlegal alien. I don't remember if it was from a ticket, or the Big Spin, and he got to keep the money.

It depends on the state.

Some states don't allow non-residents to win their lottery.

NO, they cannot keep the money. In order to receive the money, you must be at least a legal resident and have proof of document.

I don't know if he was the first but I do remember when this happened. The rules were immediately changed right after and he was escorted to the plane, on board to Mexico once he received his check. He was not allowed to stay. It happened in California in the 80's.

It does depend on the States status on this issue, i believe each is different. But the way i feel, if they cannot aford to come here by legal means, and become a citzizen , then in no way they should be allowed to keep a winning lotto.

For a small cut of the winnings, I don't think any illegal immigrant would find it too hard to find a resident willing to help them out.
