Kind of how the righties purposely ignore the fact that we don't want legal citizens to be hassled by the police.
The very good thing about these laws is that if illegal immigration is curtailed, then those employers who really face a worker shortage will either raise wages to attract employees, or they will provide work visas if there are true shortages of workers.
Imagine that - more people could be brought here legally - and have jobs but after the employer made some kind of attempt to hire an American first.
Shouldn't you want that? More employers motivated to provide work visas?
"Under the Alabama law, police must detain someone they suspect of being in the country illegally if the person cannot produce proper documentation when stopped for any reason."
I cannot believe that a true conservative could support such ambiguity in law enforcement. Oh, wait, yes I can. The constitution can be thrown out if it supports your agenda!

My British husband can produce proper documentation. Its called a "green card." Plus, he has a stamped passport. What's the problem in being asked to provide this evidence?
Most of the people against this say that the country was built upon immigrants... but not the kind who cross the Rio Grande river and enter the country illegally and have kids to stay here!!! I have no problem with those who immigrate legally, but those who are living here illegally have NO rights!
This country was built by Americans. I am tired of the Cliche "immigrants" because identity gets lost there.
Americans know who they are and what we fought for.
At least the states are doing something, even though the feds are not, You remember that Obama said this was his top priority when he was elected.
I love diversity, but not when it is as out of control as it is currently, yes America is a melting pot, that is what we are all made of. But, you come in to a country legally, then you have no worries.
Plus I am sick and tired of calling a business of some sort, and having to press what button I want my language spoken in.

Just what about this law aren't you getting? Anytime a police officer stops you under lawful contact they are supposed to ask for your I.D. Nothing new here. The only difference is that they can now detain you for immigration status if you cannot provide a valid I.D. "Any reason" doesn't mean based on skin color/ethicity or race. No one is "suspect" for just driving down the road and not committing an infraction of the law.
