About half of the illegal aliens in the country came here LEGALLY as a tourist or student and never left. But when they talk about the illegal alien problem the media and politicians only talk about illegal border crossings. They seem to be saying that people who came by plane or car are a better class of illegal alien so they should be ignored.

The problem with illegal aliens overstaying their tourist Visa's is going to get even more serious because of the extreme pressure the tourist industry is putting on our government to make it easier for foreigners to get a Visa to come to America and calls to eliminate the need for a tourist Visa for residents of many countries.

If we really want to eliminate illegal immigration we need to make it harder to come to America as a tourist from overseas, not easier. That will be hard to do because of the lobby of the industries that come out ahead if we increase foreign travel to America. When they see foreign visitors they see dollar signs. When I see foreign visitors I see anchor babies and foreigners who overstay their tourist Visas.

What is the solution?

The solution is easy. We keep a database of visas. When tourists or students enter and leave on schedule it is recorded. When a visa expires without a recorded departure a nationwide arrest warrant is issued. When the violator is caught they are immediately deported. Why is this so complicated? Oh right....I forgot....anything along these lines is racist and inhumane

Actually, visa overstayers make up only 40% of the illegal alien population. If they are considered to be a better class of people than border jumpers it probably is because the border jumpers never came here legally in the first place.

I'm not sure what the procedure is to track visa holders but it definately is lax. Being the high tech country that we are you would think we would be doing a better job. I am beginning to think that our goverment just doesn't care about illegal foreigners in our midst whether they be visa overstayers or border jumpers. We need to vote in politicians who do care.

Yes, the government simply will not do anything about them. It costs only $140 for a border crossing card, it's good for 10 years and at any point the card holder can simply cross over the border and decide to stay. Nothing is done about this problem and it's a huge problem.

How come some Mexicans can get a border card to shop and visit friends in America and others have to hire a smuggler to get them across the desert in 120 degree heat?

Since it costs thousands of dollars to get smuggled, more than a visa, it's apparent. Entitlement. They don't want to wait the required period of time.

We do get carried away. The obvious reason is that overstayers are not a national security threat. So the government will worry about them after all the border crossers are under control.

LOL

Some of the 9/11 hijackers were visa overstayers.

Most were legal and the ones who were not could have easily repaired their status.

So perhaps your position should be that we should concentrate on legal non-immigrants?
