Florida illegal immigrant seeks law license - latimes.com

Quote:
The Florida Supreme Court may soon decide whether an illegal immigrant should be able to become licensed to practice law in the Sunshine State.

The case of 25-year-old Jose Godinez-Samperio, a resident of greater Tampa who wishes to be admitted to the Florida bar, presents an interesting twist on the generation of young people who were brought to the United States by their parents illegally while very young but are now fully grown and, in some cases, highly motivated and highly talented.

...

Godinez-Samperio's attorney argues that her client has been open about his illegal status in his applications to college and law school, and says that the rules for admission to the bar do not say anything about proving immigration status.

How did they get the degree to begin with? By lying about the residency?

Who wants to hire a lawyer who doesn't believe in obeying the law? Lawyers are supposed to be of good moral character. An illegal in violation of multiple American laws does not meet that test.

Yes, how can someone practice law who has nothing but contempt for the laws of this country?

And someone with his education would do very well back home in his own country. There is absolutely no reason not to send him back.

What law did he break? He was brought here by his parents as a minor.

But he remained here once he knew he was an illegal alien even after adulthood. Therefore he was breaking the law. Did he hold any job here while he knew he was an illegal alien? If so, he was breaking the law. Did he use a fake or stolen ID to do so? If so, he was breaking the law.

A minor's overstay does not result in a period of ineligibility to reenter the U.S Are you sure he broke any law?

I already asked questions as to whether he broke the laws that I listed. Do you know the answers? I never said anything about his ineligibility to re-enter. I am not familiar with those types of laws in regards to minors. However, he is no longer a minor.
