4.6 million individuals world-wide who have been approved to be sponsored for green cards by U.S. citizens, current green card holders, and U.S. employers through the established legal immigration process will now have to step aside for a while in order for USCIS to process the deferred action applications of people hoping to qualify under the Obama administration's Dream Scheme.
The vast majority of these are relatives of U.S. citizens, many of whom have been waiting for several years for their opportunity to immigrate legally. The State Department keeps track of those on the waiting list.
No line? Click the waiting list on the above link. And, despite having untold millions of illegal Mexicans in this country, Mexico outnumbers all countries, with over 1 million waiting to enter through legal channels. It is not humanly possible for DHS to process the estimated 1.8 million deferred action applications as promised, unless they do not intend to conduct background checks, or require Dreamies to go through the normal process. Otherwise, it will take years. Of course, that could be the plan. Obama can still say he tried.
Oh, before the CIS bashers chime in, they link directly to the U.S. Department of State.

This is what I don't get. There are some in here married to legal immigrants. Why in the world would they not be outraged over this? Is it because they got theirs so to heck with other legal immigrants waiting to come?

Currently, the government is encouraging early retirement, doing buyouts and closing regional offices to save money. There are hundreds of thousands of mentally and physically incapacitated veterans coming home that need psychiatric and medical care. Additionally, they need fiduciaries to help them manage their financial and personal needs. We are talking multiple billions of dollars annually for their care alone.
I wonder where the funding will come from to hire the massive number of new DHS employees needed to process the applications of millions that will be given amnesty.

There's a hiring freeze for all but the MOST essential positions. They aren't hiring anyone to process Dreamies, which is why they are either playing games per instructions from Obama, or they will automatically approve every application. They don't have the resources, period. If they approve Dreamies without thorough background checks and other crucial procedures, heaven help us.

The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee froze the number of non-emergency employees at the Homeland Security Department for the forseeable future. And lawmakers may go one step further and halt the growth of contractors.

But it is in that linkage that they make a typical CIS "mistake". Once again, being familiar with the immigration process has its benefits. I realized it after just ten seconds of review.
DREAMers will start processing through USCIS. The National Visa Center and Department of State (running the U.S. Consulates) handling is after USCIS, where visas are allocated by category. Those on "the list" are waiting on the numerical limits per year, not any further USCIS processing.
CIS is entirely lost here, as many other times too...

No, it is YOU who is entirely lost. In case you don't know, USCIS falls under the purview of DHS. They do NOTHING without authorization from DHS, including hiring. So, where and how will USCIS hire these folks?

It is USCIS, funded solely by petition fees, that will process the applications...
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) was established on March 1, 2003 and is under purview of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Before that date, the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) was responsible for all things related with immigration, including administrative and investigative functions. After the events of September 11, 2001, the U.S. Congress passed into law the Homeland Security Act of 2002, which led to the dismantling of the INS into three agencies within the DHS to enhance national security and improve efficiency: the US Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS), which is responsible for immigration service functions, such as those listed below; and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) bureaus, which handle immigration enforcement and border security functions. The USCIS was briefly named the US Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (BCIS), before becoming USCIS.

Do you actually not realize $385 for a work permit, and $85 for fingerprinting is NOT enough to cover the total costs for their deferred action amnesty? Why do you think it will cost taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars? Obviously, if you think these measly amounts will cover all of the administrative and other costs associated with the legal immigration process, you clearly aren't the legal immigration guru you are trying to portray.
