Any fence the guv builds will be a complete boondogle. Better to get rid of the incentives that lure them across the border in the first place, win/win for the taxpayer.
Nicely stated, a fence is a simple solution for a complicated problem, it will not work, many people involved in the immigration issue on both sides have stated such. We need to focus on solving the problem, not nonsensical, costly feel good solutions that do nothing.

Of course Dems don't support it, they need the votes. BUT, they will praise countries like Mexico for killing illegal border crossers.

It costs money to build a border fence and we don't have money at the moment.

Besides, more illegal immigrants come from Asia now, so should we build a fence across the Pacific???

Just get rid of immigration quotas and get rid of the stupid immigration rules and let them come legally and pay their taxes.

Every country in the world should have open immigration. That is, not allowing criminals.

The best fence is racial profiling, e-verify, harsh laws that punish businesses that hire illegals. The issue is that liberalism is way too sympathetic so we can't do any of these things. And now that overt sympathy is costing us trillions in tax dollars, radical cultural changes, importation of mass poverty, high unemployment etc etc

Liberalism is literally killing the united states. If we didn't have liberalism then we wouldn't have an illegal immigration problem at all.
Because ALL businesses that have hired illegals and benefitted from cheap labor over the past 54 years or so have beenl owned and operated by liberals, eh?

Typical RW baseless BS.

Conservatism apparently kills brain cells and the rate seems to be increasing.

Lets assume Mexico, since the race is the same. . .between us and Canada.

1) Fence is ineffective. You aren't talking about Berlin here. You are talking about miles upon miles of land. Any fence can be breached in minutes/hours

2) what are you guarding against - what is effective? A fence to keep out people who want to work? not very effective.

3) expensive. Border fence and maintance is expensive versus the return-on-investment.
So you prefer an entire country to enter as they please?

Why have security guards at the airports?

WTH does small government have to do with protecting our borders?

I am sure you are happy to give your job and limited resources to an illegal immigrant.

Yet we have money for food stamps.

They come from all over, its a fact the majority comes from the south of our border.

No they don't. Not unless they've attempted to rob or rape you or you haven't paid a bribe ... then, maybe, they'd be pissed off enough to shoot to kill you. But, otherwise, the country pays relativley little attention to border control in the south.
