Good Fences Make Good Neighbors
Illegal immigration has become a top tier issue in both political parties. Comprehensive immigration reform proposals have been heavily debated (and rejected) in Congress in recent years. The American people have made it clear to the politicians that they want the border secured and they want illegal immigration decisively dealt with first. Now, leading presidential candidates in both political parties are taking positions, addressing the issue either in campaign ads or in the debates.
And it’s no surprise why: A recent Pew Research poll found that 65% of Republican voters and 50% of Democrat voters considered illegal immigration a “very important” issue. Another recent poll found that illegal immigration was the top concern among Independents, “with no other issue a close second.” Michael Dimock, associate director of the Pew Research Center, said that illegal immigration was “a potentially powerful voting issue for a significant segment of the electorate.” If you don’t believe me, just ask New York Governor Eliot Spitzer, who has seen his poll ratings plummet!
As a result of the renewed focus on illegal immigration, Mexico’s president, Felipe Calderon, decided to inject himself into the public debate. Yesterday, Calderon criticized the “growing harassment” of Mexicans and referred to illegal aliens in the United States as “thematic hostages” of American politics. According to the Washington Post, Calderon also vowed to launch a Mexican government-financed media campaign to “underline immigrant success stories.”
bottom line neither white house nor palacio nationale has any desire to stop illegal immigration. mutually beneficial and helps bust labor/union activity on boths sides.
23 million illegals are here since the last amnesty. we have had full strengh law enforcement all along.
does this mean they want it to stop? 80% of USA illegal immigration comes from san ysidro 12 miles from my house. california could make it stop if they wanted to.
however, the political resistance to doing so is enormous.

That is all changing. The people of this country have overwhelmingly shown the politicians what they want and how they want it and it's coming to the point where if a politician plans to stay in office "Illegal Immigration" and "Border Security" will be 2 of the main issues.
Folks, apparently this was initiated in a different forum (a state forum?) and moved by a moderator to the Immigration Forum. I have shortened the initial posting to save the poster a potential copyright infringement problem, but the link shows the article posted.
