If you come here legally, aren't taking welfare or jobs away from Americans and you speak English I have no issue with it. However that is a small minority and what is happening is we are getting uneducated people who don't speak English (and many never will), who are receiving welfare and decreasing wages. We are also getting criminals and terrorists like the Boston Bomber. We don't need people like this.

Political strategists have claimed that it is not possible for a Republican nominee to win the popular vote without at least 40% of the Hispanic vote. The last time that happened was in 2004.

The Bush Admin immigration reform plan failed to get enough support from his own party. Bush vowed to try again and he did. McCain supported it. Nonetheless it failed in the House.

I have read reports that say the last Bush Admin Plan and the bipartisan Senate Plan are similar.
I have read reports that claim the Bush Plan failed to get support primarily due to right wing talk show hosts lambasting anyone who favored it which does not play well at reelection time.

And so Congress did nothing. 30 years of "doing nothing" is something and resulted in right now.

No matter who wins in 2016, we are way beyond the point of rounding up millions of people and deporting them. It's not going to happen.

I have no problem with immigrants. I do have a problem with ILLEGAL immigrants. If we want more immigrants, we should change our ridiculous immigration process.

Nice to see another realist post. You are correct-the GOP base has excluded their party from seriously discussing solutions for far too long. When one tries to, the stupid RINO tag comes out. Notice the Dems in winning 61% of the electoral college over 24 years have seldom brought out the DINO tag.

We have 11 million here who are not going away and how we deal with it does not change that fact.

Few people have a problem with legal immigrants who contribute to society in a positive way it's the illegal immigrants (also known as criminals) that people have a problem with. You don't have a problem with the harm they cause to the economy, using resources that could be spent on helping Americans?

Were they?

How many came from everywhere, overstayed visas, had an anchor baby or five and used the laws of those times past ( through at least the 70's ) to eventually gain citizenship?
