Well I still don't understand the need to put "formerly _________" in your location, I have lived all around the world I don't put "formerly Azores, Portugal" in my loc and it seems to only be x-californians that do it like some badge of honor or something.
California, I think, is just FUN to 'bash". It's huge, it affects MOST Americans, and everyone has an opinion about California.....all over the world. Few people overseas ask about Indiana, or Nebraska---but every place I've been, everyone has an opinion on California.
Your post reminds me of my own area. We had a large Marine Base here some years ago (closed now). LOTS of young guys, a LONG way from home, and some of them got into 'mischief'. And every time they DID, the newspapers would say "Marine stabs buddy"...or "Marine sought in burglary"..."Marine jailed for domestic abuse"....or "Marine arrested for possession".
No one EVER read, "Shoe salesman involved in bar fight"....or "Roofing contractor tagged for D.U.I.".....or "Real Estate Agent charged with child abuse"....Why this happened, I don't know...but there's just somethinmg about Marines....and Californians...that makes it "fun" to 'bash" them....guess we all feel it's our 'right', I suppose...
Don't know about other states, but over the years several "agencies" within California have applied in various ways for financial relief from cost directly incurred by illegal immigration---OR, the right for the STATE to get involved in 'doing something about it'.. They've been told very clearly that, "No, we will NOT reimburse you, (or at least nowhere NEAR your actual costs) for costs incurred by your state in accommodating illegals" (for example, help with the costs of education, law enforcement, prisons, etc),....and "No, you (California) may NOT become involved with the job of regulating who does, and does not enter the US over your portion of the International Border..that is a FEDERAL issue, and WE (the 'Feds") will take care of that--(or NOT take care of it)--as we see fit, ('thankyouverymuch')"......
So there you go. Illegal immigration is a "Federal" issue, and theoretically affects ALL of us---(yes, even Minnesota). Individual states are NOT encouraged to pursue their individual 'take' on this...
I haven't read all the replies but I posted on a forum inquiring about the illegal immigration status in that area and was attacked brutally. I don't think pro-illegals can get past the racial issue but for me it IS NOT about race at all. But there is no convincing many people.
On the local forum in my area someone posted recently asking about it - a fair question and the moderator locked the thread after only a few posts
I currently live in CA and cannot wait to get the hell out. Having your home turned into a replica third world Mexican town is no pleasant, and I hate every passing day here more and more. I think the "formerly CA" badge is a feeling of freedom, that "I finally got the hell out of there". So MACH50, you can feel about CA however you want, if the illegal invasion doesn't bother you than so be it, but it sure as hell bothers me and others like me. I think also it may have to do with the fact that you're hispanic, if it was millions of Chinese or Indians taking over your state you'd probably be singing a different tune. It doesn't help that I've lived here my whole life, and it "used" to be a wonderful place to live, but with the current situation in this state, I will choose to make my home elsewhere.

Just a question, why do so many folks have "formerly California" in their location? I don't see anyone running around with "formerly Illinois" or "formerly Oklahoma".

I am just curious is it a badge of honor to have left or a sense of pride to have lived there, why the need to designate that?
A little bit of both.,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Any objections?

I may be wrong here: but Mach50 may claim 'Hispanic' courtesy of Affirmative Action programs------otherwise, he would likely not bother. He is also of Irish heritage in his own words courtesy of his father.
Many obviously Anglo/White people who may have one Mestizo Hispanic grandparent also claim 'Hispanic' for the goodies-------to the disgust and chagrin of the MEChA crowd. They latter dare not 'mouth off' in fear of being called racist.

Thank You Simpleman
MACH50 if Illegal Immigration doesn't offend you, then what are you on this forum for in the first place?

I'm almost positive it was MACH50 offended from being racially profiled because of him being hispanic, on the thread were individuals were being profiled by police looking for illegals. If I'm mistaken, then I apologize, although nothing was meant as an insult, just stating what I believe to be fact, and that is that many that come to the defense of a hispanic illegal are hispanic themselves and there views tend to come from a different, more emotional place.
