The process takes so long because of the quotas. There is a finite number of family-based visas given out every year, and a handful of countries (Mexico, India, China, Philippines) are restricted by quotas because if we didn't impose quotas, those countries would claim most if not all family-based visas every year. That's why the wait is so long. There's no way to streamline it.

What we need to do is eliminate chain-based immigration. Most countries do not allow adult children, siblings, parents, etc. of permanent residents or citizens to immigrate. At all.

I so agree with you. This family based immigration needs to stop. It just increases our population growth and adds more stress to our infrastructures, social and natural resources.

I don't mind a challenging immigration system that vets incoming immigrants and weeds out undesirables (criminals, those that might become dependant on welfare, etc), but it should be applied to EVERYONE equally including those that have overstayed a tourist visa, overstayed a work visa, overstayed an education visa and those that cross into and stay in the US illegally.

I find it absurd that the US government is refusing to enforce american laws on some of these groups while enforcing the laws on others. The US government is failing the citizens of America.
