Sounds to me the mom is making sure that the guy is taking care of his responsibilities. Do you believe that it would be better if he had runaway away form his responsibilities? That it would be better to incarcerate him and let the girl support her baby on welfare? Since the girl chose not to press charges it seems that there might have been a relationship. And if you think that 14 yr olds from all races and nationalities don't have relationships with men who are older then them, 16,18,20 and up, then I suggest you wake up from the 1950's because these things happen. Watch Maury one day and you'll see the number of episodes he does with girls who want to have babies at 12,13,14,15 or the women who bring 6 guys in for a paternity test and none of them are the father. This is our culture, these things are not just the problem of those "underclass" societies, they are world problems. Look at the guy in England who at 21 was fathering his 7th child, he started having kids at 13!

So before you begin bashing Mexicans think and reflect on every culture and on our own, then cast your stone if you still want to.

I think in the past, American culture was more inclined to shot-gun weddings in a situation like this -- but even when marriage at 14 was not unheard of, allowing an older man to shack up with your 14 year old daughter would not have been culturally acceptable.
It's not so much bashing Mexicans because no one is pointing out a case IN MEXICO where a woman is doing this same thing, it's that Mexicans are unwilling to conform to our culture and are insisting they have a cultural right to break our laws.
In Mexico what this woman did might not be particularly wrong. She was hoping that the older man would stick around and not abandon her pregnant little girl. Maybe she was hoping that he would eventually be a good father and even consider being a husband for her daughter. And in addition -- she was getting $300 a month out of the deal.
Here what it was is considered rape of a child.
The problem is -- the woman, the 14 year old girl, and the older man are not in Mexico now, they are in the USA. Do we throw out all our laws and just change over to whatever law they have in Mexico?
Or do we decide there will be different sets of laws. It will be okay for certain 14 year olds to be raped and for certain mothers to collect $300 a month for the use of a daughter? Or should all 14 year olds be given the same protection by the law? Should we decide that if a 12 year old girl is of Mexican ancestry that she can consent to sex and being impregnated by adult men but if she's of European ancestry then no? And of course we'd have to have different laws for the men. But would it only be men of Mexican ancestry that would get away with impregnating a 12 or 13 year old or would any man be allowed to do so as long as the girl was Mexican?
This is why I think that lawyer and that whole defense is hogwash.
