I must say that's a little twisted. I'm a great believer in treating others the way you want to be treated. And these people aren't treating anyone very well.
Illegal immigrants do jobs for lesser wages and have kept legal people (regardless if they are an immigrant or not) from getting paid a decent wage for decent work.
And now, our food is regularly poisoned because some of them are taking a dump and contaminating food all of us might eat!
If the mean bosses won't allow you the time to take a bathroom break, learn a lesson from time challenged people in Asian countries. Wear a diaper and eliminate (pun intended) the need!
Mexico's corrupt semi socialist government has encouraged it's citizens to come take advantage of the good ole USA. And it seems to be a one way street.
America ideally had always welcomed new people to share in the American dream. But to leave your own mess and simply make a mess elsewhere (when by adapting you could keep the best of your culture and enjoy the best here) is an excellent example how two wrongs don't make a right.

The factory packager that is...............I seriously doubt the fruit picker was even aware they did anything wrong if they did. From the size of the out break it wasnt one worker. This would have been a hughe operation covering many fields and a large amount of manure.

Yes, that "taking a dump" myth is pretty vicious. I'm upset about illegal immigration, but I don't buy the 'dump' theory, at all.
MUCH of our produce is imported...from Mexico and elsewhere, sometimes grown by the same large growers who grow it here in California. And having spent many years in the Water field, my honest guess 90% of these cases result either from "bad" irrigation water, (such as in Mexico, where regulations are lax, water is at a premium, and 'pollution control' is in its infancy)...OR it's the result of farm runoff (cattle, turkey. hog waste lagoons, etc., overflowing into the neighborhood).
Even here in California, violations of the pollution laws are very common, irrigation water is not always cheap, and there's a temptation to 'cut corners'. So that's my educated guess..90% of all crop-related salmonella cases are the result of contaminated irrigation water. Some is the result of birds in the fields (ducks, geese, etc)....and undoubtedly, SOME is due to sloppy personal hygiene in the preparation of food. Why do you think we have those "Wash Your Hands....Lave sus Manos" signs in supermarket restrooms? (which I witness being ignored with a disturbing frequency.)

I'm all for people immigrating to this country, so far as they do it LEGALLY. Go through the same channels and red tape that those who made this country strong did. You get no amnesty or special treatment because you're unhappy with your government. And if Mexico is so bad, then go through the proper channels to get amnesty. I'm tired of my hard earned money going to support services for law breakers. It's bad enough we support the criminals in prison. I dont give a flying crap if illegals do jobs other folks don't want to do. They are ILLEGAL. Do you get that? They are thwarting the law. They are in this country ILLEGALLY. And they're willingness to do the dump jobs should not trump the fact that they have BROKEN the law!

I don't know who started it, but a lot of people that think it. Sounds like we are turning into a 3rd world country trying to cut corners to irrigate our crops. Gross!

Yeah, well "a lot of people" are pretty dumb.
The whole cutting corners thing with irrigation is probably due to the fact that California where a lot of crops are grown, doesn't have very much water to begin with. Maybe it does have to do with the runoff somehow. I wouldn't know though, but I never thought of it that way.
as I understand it the plants can actually absorb the e coli or salmonilla virus into the plant and into the fruit. So using large quanities of contaminated water can result in this issue.

The law in California is pretty strict. Reclaimed water may legally be used on 'tree crops' (fruit, etc) but not on row crops. Reclaimed water may also be used for 'ornamental' irrigation..golf courses, ball fields, parks, freeway medians, etc etc. Reclaimed water is in a legal 'gray area'...it can be 'sprayed into the shrubs' where people walk (parks, etc), but, in the case of a line break or other 'spill', reclaimed water must be reported to the Health Department as if it were a sewer leak...unlike potable water.
It's been my experience that, though it originates as wastewater, reclaimed water is rigidly monitored and tested constantly, and chances of 'contamination' are very rare. Reclaimed water is distributed through a system with "lavender"-colored valves, sprinkler boxes, and pipes, to make SURE it's never mistaken for potable water.
But out in the "field", things can be different, Irrigation canals and 'laterals' can be contaminated without anyone knowing. Flocks of birds can 'bomb' a field, or nearby animal operations can have runoff.
I've heard conflicting reports as to whether fruits can be contaminated 'systemically' through the roots. But ALL crops from the ground, including all melons and tomatoes, should be VERY thoroughly washed off, before ever being 'penetrated' with a knife...
