If people can freely cross the southern border, why do travelers still have to go through Customs at the airport and border crossings? Why not simply eliminate it altogether and save a lot of money, time, space, etc.

I'm not advocating open borders. I'm just fed up with the charade of the government forcing some to go through the hassle of Customs, while allowing others free range.

(I'm using the term customs to refer to customs, immigration and agriculture.)

With that logic, if shop lifters can just steal stuff from stores why do we even have to pay for it ourselves.

Because those that do the inspections have really good paying jobs with good benefits, and they have supervisors who have supervisors all that make more money by having more employees that they supervise. This is typical of both government and government contractors. Otherwise, it is just a joke to continue the charade that our government gives a darn about who or what comes through our borders.

A better question is. If we have open borders. Why do people try to sneak across concealed in trucks? Especially in sweltering heat.

Wouldnt it be easier to show up at the border and say "i'm here, city data said it was ok to cross."

We have "virtual" open borders by Biden's encouragements. Those who sneak into our country do so because they have a criminal background or they don't have a viable asylum claim.

Well the plane is because they dont want you to bring bomb or gun and kill everyone. But I get the land borders though. It is pointless at this point.

Dog and pony show of course to show the appearance that the US has "tight control of its borders"

But we know better.
